When will Michigan win game #1000?
...and against whom?
If the internet has not lied to me, Michigan currently sits at 983 wins, so that means 17 more get to 1000. Now that we finally have a B1G 2023 schedule we can project ahead with a guess at which game will tick us over the random round number.
I did a quick thought experiment with best-guess odds on victory on all upcoming games on the schedule. Of course YMMV...
So based on one person's projections, win #1000 will be against whoever fills the open Sept 14th slot in 2024. A potential place of historical significance for some team from the MAC?
If we want to get our hopes up, I added the Dare to Dream column at the right which assumes Michigan wins every regular season game and has as good a shot as anyone else in the playoff. This would mean the thousandth win would happen at Maryland.
*Playoff semifinal odds taken from FiveThirtyEight's College Football Predictor, which may not be accurate, but it's as good as any other guess. Assumes 50/50 chance to win the semi.
**538 does indicate a 10% chance of winning the playoff
***Bowl game odds are 50/50, but can't win both that and go to playoff, hence only 22% of a win left.
If this approach is not clear, apologies! If you think this silly experiment is important, don't think that!

One game at a time. Stay focused. Beat Sparty.

I'm all in on this 2022 season and it's just past half over at this point. There are big fish to fry yet this season (as Harbaugh would say).

I'm thinking our bowl game at end of next year. I don't see a win vs. Ohio just because they are crazy good and it's a road game. I am hoping we finally win our bowl game. That, along with 4 wins starting this year with Sparty gets us to 988.
I wouldn't be surprised with a loss at MSU or PSU but not both. If we beat Ohio that means we will be at 999. It could be B1G title game or bowl game.
While I'd love for it to happen at home, being on the big stage would be great too.
Just beat Sparty anyway we can this Saturday to make 984!

But you don't think we can beat them at home next year, when we'll have a veteran JJ and they'll be breaking in a new starter?

I believe he means this year. 988 would be winning all of our games except OSU, + a bowl game.

I thought about this too ... if things go fairly well (but not perfect) could be the home game next year vs OSU

So 12-1 this year and undefeated heading into The Game. That is certainly plausible.
October 27th, 2022 at 5:59 PM ^
This would be great. Yes please.

Or we win the conference this year and the national championship and not do that.

Going up against OSU for #1,000 would be the most terrifying, coolest, shart inducing, most awesome experience imaginable.

Now do one for Tom Brady to hit 100,000 yards passing, (counting post season stats).

489 yards away at the moment

Fresno St is my guess

Looks like if we are undefeated National Champions this year, and we start next year on a roll as well, then we'd have a bye week before making Purdue our 1000th victim. I would love to have two weeks of national buildup to that historic win!

I think we signed Arkansas St to play us on 21 Sep, not that it means anything with USC&UCLA coming in...

After their 999th win.

We will be the first college football team in history to reach 1,000 wins. How cool is that?
October 28th, 2022 at 2:19 AM ^
Yeah, really cool. I had this same thought after I OPed.

If that open spot is the best odds for win 1000 I'd like the AD to move heaven & earth to get Notre Dame signed up. Fuck the series, but win #1000 against them would be sweet.

I'll take the under and say we get it against Fresno State. That being said, getting it earlier means we probably won a B1G title in either 2023 or 2024, so I'll be rooting for that!

Hi, it happened.
Seth! It did!!
