What is Mike Martin's Draft Projection (Hypothetical)?

Submitted by sman13 on

MM inquired for his draft status a few weeks ago (or at least it seems like that...time has slowed with the coaching search), and unless I have missed some huge announcement, he plans on returning next year.

Howeva, I am curious whether anyone happened to hear when he was projected to go? That is, either the official projection he received or what scouting services were saying unofficially.

And on a semi-related note, Stephen Schilling is looking like a 3-4th round pick and Joans Mouton perhaps picking up a 7th round pick if lucky (based on this site: http://www.nfldraftscout.com/ratings/playersbyteam.php?DSTeamId=33&sort… and others)

If I had to speculate, I would say 5th round, he was on a horrible defense, regardless of how good he is, I think he needs another year in a good defensive scheme to show his true abilities.

If Martin came out now, I'd say 4th-6th round. Probably more towards Round 6 unless he had a freakish combine workout.

Martin is a work out freak and would kill at the combine.  Bench Press, lateral movements, vertical, etc all things that Martin would be towards the top at among the other DL.  That alone would raise his stock 1 -2 rounds.

He had a couple of really strong games against bad competition, but then got hurt and couldn't perform at his peak against the best teams.  That, and the NFL's predisposition towards nose tackles that eat space rather than slash, makes him a lower round pick.

sure, he's a beast in the weight room, but he is still too light to anchor a pro 3-4 line.  regardless of where he might eventually wind up, i wouldn't feel confident drafting him as an end.

it's hard to look at this list http://www.walterfootball.com/draft2011DT.php and say he wouldn't get picked up somewhere on day 3, but almost certainly no earlier.  a "monster combine" can be helpful, but keep in mind they don't clean or squat there.

... but i do remember around the MSU game they had moutan projected in the 3rd or 4th round. I remember this because I made sure to bring it up to my friend whos an MSU fan, that he had a higher projection than greg jones. I guess that site doesnt have much faith in him. Out of all the underclassmen i think hemmingway is the most likely to leave, not mike martin. He got a 3rd or 4th round projection and he won't want to take the chance of becoming the next greg matthews.
