Right now the team makes me want to gouge my eyes out. The offense has been so frustratingly bad, it feels like we're winning less than 25% of the faceoffs, and hogan has let in a ton of soft goals. I want to compare this to last year where we sleepwalked to a 9-7 start but we feel worse this year. Given, we did just play 3 straight ranked teams, but we don't usually play like that against ranked teams
What is the hockey team doing?
Call Brandon Spikes.
There is no reason to jump for the nearest cliff ledge quite yet.
Hogan has been horrible, no questions asked. He has proven to be a talented goaltender and I don't question for a second that he will turn it on for a stretch this year and become comfortable.
Very impressed with Moffie tonight though, thought he showed great poise and nice shot for the goal.
I do think the team will be fine, Berenson is one of the best in the business and he knows what it takes... things will be alright soon.
Now if only he can get them to start like they played toward the end of the game where they had just relentless pressure. They came out way too flat for this game.
I hate admitting it, because I had really high expectations this season, but the hockey team might not be that good. The offense has been a huge debacle. Hogan and the defense haven't been that bad, but when your team isn't scoring, every mistake on the defensive end looks alot worse than it is. They will continue to struggle on offense which will kill them this year. I really hate saying this and am getting mad thinking about it, but I think we have to lower our expectations for this year after the last three games.
I'm that farthest thing from a hockey expert, but..
Notwithstanding we have had recent success against State, they have always played us with great intensity and hostility. They usually bring more toughness to the game than we do. Sometimes that's enough.
What can I tell you about Miami that you don't already know? Rico is just doing an incredible job with that program.
Red will figure the shit out. It's what he does.
Good question, this shit is infuriating.
Hogan has had his share of bone headed mistakes but at the same time he has had some stretches where he's kept us in the games when the defense has left him hung out to dry. Penalties have hurt us, but unlike last year, when the PK was actually fun to watch, I watch with far less confidence thanks to the defense. The intensity and grit that guys like Miller, Turnbull, and even Fardig brought to the table, seems to be missing. We've got very few people who can work the boards and the corners now. Another thing that is lacking is chemistry on offense. Hopefully a few tweaks to the lines will help that.
You do well in hockey when your best players are your best players. Right now Caporusso, Wolhburg, and Burlon need to step it up.
Bright spots: Haglin, Treais, Brown, Winnett, and Scooter.
Lame excuse: front-loaded schedule.
Unfortunately, I was only able to watch the last half of the first period-we clearly were the better team as far as controlling the puck even when were a man or 2 down which was much of the time-too many penalties. The one on ------- in front of our net was a weak call. We need to put the puck on the net and look for some rebounds
i was pleasantly surprised to see the game was on fsn last night, so i caught the 2nd and 3rd periods...i thought for most of 2nd and 3rd we looked pretty flat, and hardly controlled the puck in their zone at all. im not a hockey guru by any means, but it looked like they turned over the puck a lot in the neutral zone and either took a bad shot or tried to do much instead of putting the puck on the goal. they finally turned it on a bit after the goal in the 3rd, but it was prob too late. i think were a pretty young team, so theyll improve as the season continues. what did everyone think of the MSU's 3rd goal on that penalty? that really screwed us haha
