What athlete or team is most helped by the world shutdown?

Clearly this will be easier to answer when we see how leagues choose to resume. But I am going to say the Astros. I think fans aren’t going to be so focused on the cheating when MLB comes back.

LeBron. He's 35 and if the NBA is able to start back up sometime and just be straight into the playoffs, he will have fresh legs instead of going through the whole season. Plus I'm sure he has a basketball court and gym at his house so he will keep working out.

Detroit fans, we don't have to watch the Red Wings, Tigers and Pistons lose (assuming anyone was watching them to begin with).

Roger Federer.

He just had knee surgery a month ago and was likely to be out until Wimbledon (July) anyway. He has a ton of ranking points to defend this spring and had already sunk to #4 in the ATP rankings with the possibility of going lower. If Nadal wins the French Open (which looks to be in serious jeopardy right now), then he would tie Federer for the all-time lead with 20 career grand slam wins. The coronavirus pandemic could not have come at a better time for Fed.

The Golden State Warriors

They maintain the top shot at drafting first, Curry doesn't play meaningless games and their streak of NBA Finals appearances stays in tact. They could be back in the finals next year with everyone healthy and the number one draft pick.

Heard this from a few different places...

The Nets are a 7 seed right now, and if they could get back a healthy KD and a healthy Kyrie.... ohhh boy it could get interesting in the East.

Astros. Don't get me wrong, they're still going to get crucified by fans when the games are back on track, but it won't be as bad as it would've if this all wasn't going on.

Reminds me a lot of when the Miami football team had a big scandal with Nevin Shapiro back in 2011. They were going to get the smackdown from the NCAA, and then the best thing that could've ever happened to them happened. Penn State happened, and then everyone just completely forgot about Miami. I think they got away with a slap on the wrist.

Golden State making out like bandits. Their Finals streak is likely going to remain intact as I won't be surprised if the entire NBA season is completely cancelled. Then at that point, they're in the running for the #1 overall pick, and combine that with a fully healthy Golden State squad next season, they may be right back in the Finals. But if the season gets back on this season, then the Lakers easily benefit the most. LeBron and AD with fresh legs getting ready to run roughshod right through the playoffs.

I wouldn't be too sure on the Astros.  Baseball fans have long memories and are very unlikely to forgive when they feel their team got screwed by cheaters.

MSU and Tom Izzo.  Saves them from the embarrassment of a first round loss in NCAA tournament....

I'm an Arsenal fan and if the Premier cancels the season, then they go back to last year's table for Champions League football qualification.  They finished 5th which means they didn't qualify but because of Man City's ban, Arsenal gets in.  Wasn't looking great this year as they sit in 9th.  Still possible to get to 5 but don't control their own destiny.

As a Yankees fan, this helps the team quite a bit. Judge and Stanton (to a lesser extent) were very doubful to start the season on time, both should be good now with a May start to the season. Of course, Stanton will probably somehow hurt himself while washing his hands. Paxton is also projected to be back in mid/late May, so that's potentially 3 top players that would've missed games to be healthy for the season.

Easy answer. Ohio State. Because they always do. We could prove that Urban Meyer and Ryan Day developed the Coronavirus, so they could administer it to their own team to get them sick, so they could get a couple of days off work, so they could go worship the the tomb of Adolf Hitler, so they could get support to resurrect Nazi Germany, and all recruits and their parents would talk about is that a few Coronavirus deaths could really open up the depth chart and give me an opportunity for early playing time.
