What are our chances of landing the BBall recruits?
The only recruits iv really heard much about are Evan Smotrycz, whos recieved some very positive attention lately, and Trey Zeigler.
I see that were in Moses Morgan's top 3. Im suprised i havent heard much about this kid, as rivals has him listed as a 6'5 208lb shooting guard. Hes ther 18th SG and 68th overall.
Finally Ray McCallum has us in his top group. Hes 6'1, 175 out of Detroit, and the 15th pg and 56th overall to rivals.
Does anyone know anything more about these guys, specifically the latter two. What are our chances of landing them? I realize this is a silly pipedream, but how sick would it be if we landed all 4.
I would love to get all four but we only have two spots left on the scholarships. We are going after Trey and Will Regan right now. The others are all backup plans for right now.
am I wrong or doesnt the departure of grady bring it up to 3, and the unlikely return of anthony wright bring it up to 4 scholarships available
The departure of Ant would bring the it up to four available. We've already used one on Smotrycz. Check out UMHoops for info on all the currect recruits. Lots of linked articles too.
I'm not sure if Wright will be allowed to get the fifth year or not, but Manny will probably leave, giving us that fourth scholarship. Even so, we may chose not to use one of them because the 2011 in-state class is loaded.
He will be a long-shot. Kansas is professing their undying love and devotion.
Also, he's not a Detroit native--he just moved there last year when his dad became coach at Detroit Mercy. So the in-state advantage is largely mitigated.
OT from this discussion, but: having just spent an entire year following the ups and downs of recruiting Morgan Moses, the existence of a Moses Morgan drives me crazy.
I was excited about a SG that can also play LT.
mccallum is unlikely to happen, but he is very good, so good that we would make room for him even though we don't have much need at the 1 (due to Darius Morris).
morgan is, by most accounts*, totally overrated and more of a backup plan at this point. we'll offer him if we don't get zeigler or prather. (and actually, we'll probably offer Tim Hardaway Jr. before we offer Morgan**)
I think Prather, Zeigler, and McCallum all have offers now, and Regan, Hardaway, and Morgan follow below those and won't get offers until it looks bad for any of those first three.

** according to Sam Webb on this morning's recruiting roundup
After Grady left it made it three. We picked up Smotrycz which makes it two but we could pick it up if Wright left but I doubt he will. So we are left with possibly three but more likely two and that leaves Zeigler as our number one target. I think that Wright showed some great signs of being better towards the end of the year but I rather have those freshman come in.
im pretty sure its the coaches decision as to whether or not they want to renew his scholarship for a 5th yr, and i doubt they will
He sure tried to make it a harder decison for the coaches by his performance in the NCAA tourney game
We'll have 4 scholarships, at least - the 2 we had, the third from Grady, and a 4th from when Manny bolts after his Junior year. Possiblt a 5th from Wright not getting year 5.
Trey Ziegler and Casey Prather.
The next two are Ray McCallum(though I think he'll pick Kansas) and Moses Morgan.
It appears to me that JB dropped Reagon from recruitment which is why he went after Smotrycz.
Richard Solomon is another name to remember.
Prather is probably the #1 target, but also probably the slimmest chance of actually happening - he's generally regarded as superior to Ziegler in most ways, and has a slew of top programs (Kansas, Oklahoma, etc.) after him.
I hadn't heard we cooled on Regan - is there a link to anything?

You never really know who is going to leave and who is going to go for whatever reason. There seems to be at least one "unexpected" departure per year in most major programs.
I am guessing that if UM really wants someone, they will find room for him.
