Some of the media guys are reporting that they are seeing LOTS of Maize and Blue. Michigan fans should take up a nice chunk of the 45k-ish stadium.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:08 PM ^
All the Utah fans must be at work. Because I can't walk 20 feet in this city without seeing a Michigan T-shirt. Crowd should be interesting

Rice-Eccles holds 45,000 ... Michigan's going to have a good chunk of that tonight.

my prediction for the game tonight based on all that's being said on the twitters is a 60/40 split favoring Utah.

Yeah, several of my buddies who are Utah fans living in SLC texted me this morning--they are excited about this game too. No doubt there will be a ton of Michigan fans there, but it's still a big home game for Utah. I'd also be shocked if we had more than 20%, but I'd be so happy if we did.

It's meant to discourage beer and caffeine drinking.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:52 PM ^
It's Utah, what are you doing out drinking?
You should be home with your 5 wives.
September 3rd, 2015 at 4:19 PM ^
Welcome to Salt Lake City. In case you weren't aware, you are welcome to tailgate anywhere on campus, but the bulk of people stick to the area around the Guardsman lot. (Ask around and you will quickly get directions to Guardsman from wherever you are.)
Although it is a dry campus, on game days you are allowed to drink anywhere on campus that you'd like, as long as you don't take booze into any buildings for any reason. If you want to take a piss in the library, leave your beer with your friends/family or you will run into trouble. I highly recommend taking a self-guided 6-pack walking tour of the campus.
Contrary to popular belief, the alcohol laws in Utah are not all that strange. You are welcome to bring as much liquor and beer to the game as you want to and do what you'd normally do back in Ann Arbor. Beer bongs and drinking games (corn hole, beer pong, etc.) are encouraged, just like anywhere else. Be friendly and outgoing and you will get plenty of free booze and food.
Also contrary to popular belief outside of Utah, most people in SLC and most Utah fans are not Mormon, so you should have a fairly stereotypical away game tailgating experience. If you do happen to find some Mormons, check their tags to make sure they've been vaccinated. They bite! (Actually, non-BYU Mormons are generally awesome people and one of the many good parts about living in SLC. BYU Mormons, however, are a whole different breed of human. It is incredible how different BYU Mormons are from non-BYU Mormons.)
I apologize in advance for what I expect to be a low tailgating turnout today. Michigan fans don't know this because your previous ADs have avoided Thursday games like the plague, but Thursday games are THE WORST for tailgating. In spite of playing a high-profile opponent, I expect the tailgating turnout tonight to be the lowest turnout of the season for Utah. Too many people are still going to work today and then rushing to the game afterward.
As for booze inside the stadium, it is "strictly prohibited". That said, it is one of the easier stadiums to sneak booze into that I've ever visited. Use some logic and a flask or two is super easy to do with a 99.9% success rate.
I hope you all have a good time outside of the final score.
Go Utes and Go Blue!

There is a lot of maize and blue in town. Specifically, so many maize and blue jerseys. Midwesterners love their jerseys.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:14 PM ^
Lame. It's not just a midwestern thing. Football fans (except the holier than thou ones who peruse this blog and are too cool for jerseys) love to don jerseys. It's part of the fun and being a fan.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:22 PM ^
I want a jersey.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:24 PM ^
I don't see a ton of jerseys in the south, but yes, that is a lame take. Jerseys are part of it all.

Not here to dump on Utah, but the more stadiums you visit the more you realize how great Michigan is.

-1 for using the word "bruh"
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:19 PM ^
It's much bigger, yes, and has Utah handily beat in tradition, but I don't remember ever seeing anything like this when looking outside it:
If you separate Michigan Stadium from its many intangibles (admittedly impossible) you'll see that it's a big, plain bowl with lots of mediocre sight lines. I love it, but I don't think it's flawless.
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:20 PM ^
You need to get better seats.

If I had been there, I would have encouraged them to scale the megaliths and hang the Michigan banner off one of the remaining horizontal lintels.
No flinging pooh though.

my tailgate is gonna be ridiculous tonight in my back yard. Heading home as soon as I post this.
Jaw Jacker, Blue Moon pumkin ale, bud light, 3 olives grape vodka and some crown royal. For the adults we're going to have . . . kidding.
As for food, 1/4 lb burgers, hot dogs and 2 types of sausage (cheese and bacon polish and some sweet italian). Potato salad and a ton of other sides.
Will do a bonfire with s'mores if the rain stays away from the south central part of the state.
HAPPY HARBAUGHMAS AND GO BLUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
September 3rd, 2015 at 3:26 PM ^
Jaw Jacker is great. I would recommend Ichabod, it's a pumpkin ale made by New Holland. It's fantastic!
Cheers to Michigan brews, and Go Blue!
September 3rd, 2015 at 4:34 PM ^
Both are great...although I prefer Jawjacker...Griffen Claw Screaming Pumpkin is my favorite pumpkin bear however....but you can never go wrong with a pumpkin beer
