We need to lock up Gattis so he doesn't leave.

Like many in this forum, I had my issues with Josh Gattis as he was an easy scapegoat for many of our team's frustrations in the past few years. But this year he has proven to be the seasoned playcaller/OC that we were hoping to have when we first hired him. He has called excellent games all year especially against Wisconsin, PSU, MSU, OSU and now Iowa.

If I were Ward Manuel, I would open the pocketbook and pay whatever it takes to keep him, and other assistants as well, on board. ?

His next job will be as a head coach somewhere.   The only way you will keep him from leaving is to have Harbaugh step aside to make room for him.

I've never really understood the Gattis hate on the board. Realistically, this is only the 2nd year of the Gattis offense (fuck 2020). The first year in 2019 showed improvements as the year went on. This year saw further wrinkles added to the offense. I just hope he sticks around for year 3.

Remember when everyone was bitching about running too much at the beginning of the year?

Bench Cade for JJ even though we were undefeated?

Lol...this fanbase has come a long way over the past 2 months.

True...but it sure as hell felt like damn near the whole fanbase was bitching about an undefeated team that was laying the foundations to something special.

It was the fans and online talking heads covering the team all going on and on about running too damn much to win anything of significance. To me it just felt like a team that was forging an identity around its perceived strengths (even more so after loosing R Bell) that would pay dividends down the road.

I had to forfeit my tix today after I couldn’t shake this covid in time. Wish I could have been there in person to eat crow. The last two games have been next level play calling in every way. Getting the lead tonight was crucial and he chalked up and saved some gimmes that put us 14-3. That’s the first time I felt comfortable saying with a two score lead at half we were going to win (thanks BPONE).

I feel he has shown steady improvement every game this season. His last 3 games I feel were his best offensively all season, nice creativity and flow. Let's be honest alot of games early in the season we complained about how predictable we were. With that said wouldn't surprise me to see him get some offers for a HC position very soon.

Gotta pay all the assistants.

MacDonald (pay him so he won’t go back to the NFL!)

Gattis (he won’t leave unless it’s a HC job)

Hart (slap AHC or RGC title on him too)

Moore

Clink (gonna get that co-DC promotion)

He’s going to leave eventually. Maybe not this year, but if he keeps this up, he will be gone, and there’s nothing Michigan can do to stop that.

Its not like Gattis won’t have earned it.

My how the world has changed. Totally agree with the sentiment, but I suspect he will be a head coach in the next couple of years. The Edwards pass was a gutsy call and after that play, you never felt like we would lose that game. Well done, Coach.

Guy like Gattis and MacDonald are still on an upward career trajectory. These guys will get head coaching gigs at some point but it would be so nice to be able to carry this staff for one more year before guys start getting poached. The good news is I think there are multiple young guys on staff that Michigan could look at moving up to coordinator to keep continuity moving forward.

We can't pay Gattis enough to supplement a HC job. If that's his dream, he will go. I hope he stays but you have to look at the Alabama program and Saban loses so many good coordinators and still manages to do just fine.

I like Gattis, but the conservative play calling against the worst pass defense in college is the only reason we have a mark on our record. Questionable officiating aside, play calling in the 2nd half is what killed us. Harbaugh or Gattis has to take the blame for that one. We should have torched that pass D just like OSU did.

Uof〽️ administration needs to pay all the coaches to prevent them from leaving for another job in College Football or the NFL.

The NFL especially is hiring young coaches.  So any coach on Uof〽️ staff is all young guys.  If Gattis and Mike McD continue doing well they both will be head coaches somewhere whether it’s in College Football or the NFL.

Let’s all enjoy this staff as long as we can because it maybe short lived.
