WBB Euro trip points roundup
So the Women’s Basketball team played 3 games in Europe this summer, with the last one this afternoon. Since I am definitely confused about who might be our leading scorers behind Laila Phelia, I figured I would take a look at the stats that Michigan published about these games (top scorers published on Twitter). They played 2 games against Humber college (a college in Toronto whose team also apparently took a trip to Italy) and 1 game against ŽKK Tresnjevka (a Croatian team). Below I’ve added up the top scorers from each game to get a sense, of who might be emerging as our second and third scorers, as well as who we might expect to see starting at the beginning of the season.
If you would like more in depth summaries of the games, UM published a day-by-day blog of the trip, linked below. Entries for the first two basketball games are on August 19 and 20,, while the rest is about their sightseeing. One other thing of note is that only 13 of the 14 players were available to play in the games. The unavailable player seems to be Katy Eidle, who had her arm in a sling in a couple of the pictures, but somebody please correct me if this is wrong.

Top Scorers
- Laila Phelia - 45 pts (top five scorer in 3 different games)
- Elissa Brett - 43 pts (3 games)
- Cam Williams - 40 pts (3 games)
- Taylor Williams - 29 pts (2 games)
- Chyra Evans - 26 pts (2 games)
- Taylor Woodson - 12 pts (1 game)
- Elise Stuck - 9 pts (1 game)
- Macy Brown - 9 pts (1 game)
I love seeing Elissa Brett and Cam Williams up there. Brett because we really need one or more of the transfers to work out this season and Cam because she started all last season, but only saw bench-level minutes because of a lack of production. Hopefully this all bodes well for the upcoming season, despite winning all three games by more than 50 points.
Obviously these are not the only stats that count, but Michigan only published points for all three games, then published some rebounds/assists/steals stats, but just for the final game.

Sign KBA to a lifetime contract.
Herpesmeds, out.

I think I worry about who the primary ball handler is more than I worry about scoring. KBA's made the program really good, but we do have turnover problems and squeezed Leigha Brown into the point guard role last year because there wasn't a true point on the roster.

Lauren Hansen has said she came to play point guard and that was the plan on how she'd be used. Her turnover rate her last two season have been 12.9% (89th percentile) and 13.4% (85%).

I hope it works out. I thought Ari Wiggins might be one player who could take care of the basketball, but her lack of minutes last year must have led her to transfer out.

Ari Wiggins disappearance her second year was a little confusing. I assume she just wasn't catching on in terms of leading the offense.

Having a point guard the opponent can not guard at the line (she never attempted a three) when your scorers are a post and two slashers is not ideal for spacing.

Thanks for posting. I appreciate the info.

Does Swords come to play this season? She was great on the Canadian U19 team this summer. Shooter and more.

Swords and Olivia Olson are in the 2024 class. Both top 25 players, Olson top 10.

I was expecting to see Jordan Hobbs and Greta Kampschroeder on the list of top scorers. They were getting a lot of minutes in the rotation towards the end of last season but they're not on the list.

Neither was a top 5 scorer in any of the three games, but Jordan Hobbs did get a shout out after the 3rd game with a stat line of "5 pts, 6 asts, 6 rebs and a charge drawn". I would love to see both take a step forward this year too, we'll see.

I just noticed that Jillian Dunston was hired as an assistant coach. I think that was a good hire and I am happy for her and Coach KBA.

Doesnt she still have her covid year?
