Washington 247 writer CB's David Long to Michigan

Submitted by Bambi on

Washington 247 Writer Ruth Robbins put in her crystal ball late last night for David Long to Michigan. Another one from the director of scouting and recruiting at Varsitypreps.com came in last night to give Michigan the 53% crystal ball advantage. Long is the #66 composite player and #8 CB.

Long had been trending towards Michigan since the Army All American Game and is on his official visit to Washington this weekend. The fact that the Washington 247 put in a CB for Michigan while Long was visiting Washington is a big positive for Michigan. While on his visit, Long snapchatted out a picture of a Michigan helmet with the caption "We everywhere" (çrootin' hasn't gone too far right?)

Long has an in-home visit with Michigan coming up soon, and is scheduled to announce after that. It looks good for Michigan that Long will be joining the class at that point.

basically already know this? Was it not obvious before the army all american game that we would get crawford and long?

I think all along the Washington mods had been defiant in their belief that Long would go there despite the recent narrative. The fact that one of them CB'd him to Michigan should be taken as basically the last hold out conceding that Long is coming here

if he signs with m harbaugh might eventually get him snaps on O but long is destined for D.

hes been the #1 CB on m's board (or at least of the realistic options, not including guys like fsu top CB commit taylor, etc), long is the fluid athlete they need to replace lewis.

long has a chance to be outstanding CB so hopefully he commits (and then ambry thomas follows him next year bc while i dont think hes as talented as long or as good an overall athlete, thomas might represent m's best shot next year at similar type player / field CB)

Yes Sam Webb already have a "gut" on him basically meaning Long has already silently committed or told the staff he plans on committing. So very good news also not too terribly surprising.

I've been worried about the athleticism of our DB recruits. Getting Long, Hudson, and Hill would be great, but getting at least 2 of the 3 is essential.

or take/pay minimal classes for the 1st semster and not count against this year's class.

Next year it's going to be Allen, so either Nordin redshirts and counts against the 25/28 limit or grayshirts and enrolls in January.   Then Nordin will be the man for 4 years and enters the NFL draft in 2020.   Nothing changes for him, either way, and grayshirting would save UM a spot in this year's class.

be a shame to lose him to nd.  johnson looks like a nice prospect - he makes all types of catches (and adjusting to the ball is not the easiest thing to do nor can it be easily taught), he likely develops into excellent route runner, offers solid versatility with his skill set, plus i love how johnson sort of plays like a RB after the catch.

he might not be as highly regarded as mitchell or hawkins but i like johnsons game more.  time will tell how he translates to college but hes got a chance with his quickness in and out of breaks, decent start / stop ability, etc.

hopefully they hold onto that cat, id rather not see him as another tate or fuller at nd if he develops and his game continues progressing.  though pie young is also a nice, versatile prospect with some similar skills so might be a decent replacement.

first week of february will be interesting

Getting a committed player to flip is hard enough, getting a committed player to flip when you are just offering a gray shirt is almot impossible and probably not worth the effort.

How would that conversation go?

"Mr. and Mrs. Nordin, I know your son has a full ride scholarship at Penn State, but if you will pay for his first year's tuition at Michigan, we will allow him to be part of our football team. Oh and can I have another slice of lemon cake? It is delicous."

Another note, I am praying Enis is part of this class. I think that kid is going to be special.

pretty sure they wouldnt have to pay tuition unless he wanted to enroll on time with rest of the class.  some grayshirts enroll as part time students (and pay part time tuition) and attend class during fall semester (or even attend cc elsewhere) with their peers.

but many grayshirts totally delay entry until spring semester, at which point they enroll, begin class and spring activities, and count towards the following years annual scholarship figure.  they might pick up a job during that fall semester or work out or whatever but many avoid enrolling until the spring so their eligibility clock doesnt begin ticking (and they dont have to pay out of pocket).

i could certainly be wrong (wouldnt be the first time) but thats how ive seen the issue play out.

its typically not ideal since the kids not starting day 1 with everyone else (and many prospects have multiple scholarship options to enroll day 1 at other reputable schools), but its a solid option for kids dying to attend a particular school (and therefore willing to make small sacrifices) or kids with extenuating circumstances

Why would Kugler transfer? He has 2 years left so even if Raulerson does come in and he plays (no guarantee with either of those prospects) that would still mean we have 2-3 open spots on the line in 2017 depending on what happens with Newsome. Unless you know of some other interior lineman ahead of him on the depth chart besides maybe Dawson, idk why he would transfer now. If he gets passed by some young guys before fall camp 2017 then definitely but now would be a little premature.

The UW guys are the biggest homers out there, so for them to concede means this is already a done deal.  Also, someone tweeted yesterday a snapchat photo of Long on his visit to UW taking a picture of a Michigan helmet with the quote "We Everywhere."
