Wally Grant, Michigan Hockey Great, passes away.
But there would be none of the fanbase or excitement or winning that has existed since the 90s without the important groundwork and success of the Michigan teams of the 50s and 60s.
And the teams of the 50s and 60s would not have seen such great success without the Eveleth Boys, bussing to Ann Arbor from the remote Iron Range town in Northern Minnesota.
And the Eveleth Boys would not have come without Wally Grant. Michigan's first Eveleth player. An all-time Michigan great.

Only knew Wally for the last 15 years or so but what a tremendous person he was. I loved talking Michigan hockey with him and just listening to his stories. What a world this would be if there were more people like Wally in it.
Go Blue Wally! You will be missed.

Don't know much Michigan hockey prior to the early '90s, but after little googling, what a great Wolverine. RIP

for posting this. I didn't know anything about Wally until your OP, then spent a bit of time googling and reading of him.
Here's a short piece about him from SBNation:
Rest in Peace, Wally---we've lost an all-time great of Michigan hockey.
