Wagner with some great postgame comments
A couple of choice comments:
“It’s awesome when they slap the floor, the crowd goes wild and then you hit one and everybody’s silent again,”
"The whole last minute was so much fun because you kind of know you’re going to win, but they’re still talking, which is weird,” Wagner said. “Why would you talk when you lose?"

We all love it when they slap the floor. We've seen that story before.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
They have cursed themselves.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:20 PM ^
God I hate that. Joking aside, wtf is the point of that? Does it get them pumped? I seriously don’t get it.

Nolan Smith is a Duke Asst Coach and an acquaintance of mine. Coach K's teams have been slapping the floor for decades. It's done on defense, by the guards who have their back to their teammates. It's a sign to the others to "bear down and D up." May seem silly but that's all it is.

floor slap has been a thing douches do for decades, I can remember kids doing it in jr high basketball as far back as the late 80's.
January 14th, 2018 at 6:21 PM ^
But the sparty slappies have perfected and trademarked it.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
so lame
January 14th, 2018 at 4:34 PM ^
Or they could just play solid defense on every possession, but five stars are above such things.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:51 PM ^
IIRC, didn’t Appling slap the floor, get burned, and it later came out he injured his hand/wrist slapping the floor? Possible break or something? How many things can go wrong on one floor slap lol
January 15th, 2018 at 8:41 AM ^
Yup slap the floor then give up a bucket...dunk the ball for two and then give up a shot for THREE!!!! LOVE it!!!

Anybody else read this in a German accent?
January 14th, 2018 at 12:28 PM ^
His English is so good he really doesn't have one.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:39 PM ^
David Hasselhoff voice.
January 15th, 2018 at 10:22 AM ^
but that's just me
January 14th, 2018 at 12:29 PM ^
and Wagner´s English and his pronounciatiion has gotten so much better. Remember when he first got to AA, and he had such a strong accent. Not anymore.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:49 PM ^
The whole article is worth reading. I left out the part where he talks about Americans and their sports rivalries. He comes off as though he's just making observations, learning about this curious group of people 60 miles to the northwest.

Da is Russian. You mean “ja” (soft j)
January 14th, 2018 at 12:55 PM ^
yes i did too lmao
January 14th, 2018 at 1:03 PM ^
....I did, and I wept tears of joy!

He also talked about all of MSUs blocks and dunks which were almost unanimously answered with 3s or buckets of our own. Epic performance by Beilein and the team.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
The poise of the team yesterday was just amazing. Beilein has to be a big part of that. Having an answer every time MSU made a big play in front of a hostile crowd was a wonderful thing to watch.

Hubris.
EDIT: from Sparty... not Mo. Sessh.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:31 PM ^
Hell of a game by Mo
January 14th, 2018 at 12:35 PM ^
an even better game.
January 14th, 2018 at 12:46 PM ^
His name is Moritz so I also go with "Mo." Is it officially "Moe" somewhere? Even if so, kind of a jerkish and pedantic reply.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:00 PM ^
it's Moh
January 14th, 2018 at 4:19 PM ^
No, it's Mow; in honor of how he mowed down the Spartans. PJ Fleck rows the boat; we mow the Aggies' (gr)ass.
January 14th, 2018 at 5:23 PM ^
... faux French Mo for the true pedant.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:56 PM ^
My wife loves the cheese dip from Moe's! She is 8 1/2 months pregnant with twin U of M fans.

“Why would you talk when you lose?”
Uhhhh, he has met Sparty, hasn’t he?
January 14th, 2018 at 12:38 PM ^
for Michigan yesterday. I love seeing a big play with that kind of skill. It was so nice to see a better Michigan team actually play like the better team on the road at a rival.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:26 PM ^
A little ironic since we were behind in that pic.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:46 PM ^
with plenty of time to win. His point was that MSU kept talking even when the game was in hand.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:00 PM ^
I'm very glad we do not slap the floor. I hope that's coached haha.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
A few games ago, I believe when he was dunking on Illinois a bunch. Hopefully it was just a "I'm about to get starter's minutes and need to get something out of my system" situation.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed that he comes back next year to get his degree, and possibly a National Championship. He is so talented, his style of play is unique, and he is a fantastic representative of the university. His passion for the game is contagious.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:16 PM ^
I'll be over the Moon if he comes back, but for now I'm just going to enjoy having him for this season. It's not often you get a skilled big man to stay into his upperclass years.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:11 PM ^
we don't even have roster space for him to come back. it would be a bummer if Beilein had to give someone a firm handshake because Wagner came back.
January 14th, 2018 at 4:24 PM ^
I don't think we need to worry about that. For one thing, Matthews will probably also have a decision to make. It will work itself out, whether it's one going pro, someone transferring, or an incoming freshman taking a grayshirt.
January 14th, 2018 at 1:52 PM ^
I doubt it happens, but keep 'em crossed.
But I wouldn't close the door on anything for this season. Last year, our team was a train wreck at this point. I think Anbender of all people even wrote how it might be time for a new direction. And that team took off, won the conference and made the Sweet Sixteen.
We'll have bad games, no doubt. And maybe this squad is just peaking early. But considering the season-long trajectory of previous Beilein squads, this season could get silly.
January 14th, 2018 at 2:20 PM ^
True, this team has the potential to make the final four with some breaks.
January 14th, 2018 at 3:50 PM ^
You can never say never on any given player, but he's anywhere from mid second round to undrafted in current mocks. That being said, I'm not sure there's any circumstance under which he becomes a first rounder whether he leaves this year or next.
