W Gymnastics wins second straight B1G Championship at Crisler Center

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

The #6 Michigan Women (21-2, 9-0 B1G Regular Season Champions) have defended Crisler Center and have won their second straight B1G Championship, their 21st overall.

After winning the regular season championship last weekend and receiving a talk from Harbaugh yesterday, this team came out and nailed everything. Michigan scored a 197.825.

That's the second best team score in program history.

It came down to the end between Michigan and Illinois. Michigan was on the most difficult event in the balance beam and they came out on top. They scored THREE 9.900s on the event to take the 2015 B1G Championship.

Brianna Brown named B1G Feeshman of the Year, Bev Plocki wins her 11th B1G Coach of the Year Award.

Nicole Artz takes the B1G All-Around Championship. Fair to say she's the Romero of W Gym. Only a sophomore. Michigan's first B1G All-Around Champion since Lindsey Bruck in 2006.

in an event against Illinois-Chicago in Keene.  The team is currently back to #3 nationally, the highest in the Big Ten, with the B1G tourney next weekend at Penn State.

The live results page lists Stacey Ervin in the all-around, which would make this his first attempt this season, after tearing his biceps last year.  I actually don't think he's ever done the all-around, but with Sam Mikulak gone and former all-around runner-up to Sam (both in Big Tens and NCAA) Adrian de los Angeles still coming back from injuries, I guess they figured they should try to have someone compete in the AA and assume Stacey's biceps is strong enough to try rings.

Great start so far for Stacey in his feature event, floor: 15.850.

The NCAA selection show will be on Monday at 3pm. Michigan will most likely get the Columbus Regional.

Congratulations to Coach Plocki and her team on being both the regular season champions and conference champions! I believe they had a perfect record in the conference too, so even better.

I will say, I do enjoy these threads when they do appear - great to give a shoutout to everyone that comprises Michigan athletics.

Great performance by the Maize and Blue. Electric atmosphere. This team and our softball team might be our biggest dynasties going right now.

There was sort of a funny moment during the awards when the announcer congratulated "Maryland University."

Welcome to the Big Ten.
