I agree with what you are saying but this is a once in a lifetime chance for us more than likely. Vary rarely does a team get the # 1 and # 4 recruit in the same class. This could also jumpstart our offense in a way we have not seen in quite some time. The part I love about it the most is it gives our younger QB's another year to learn the system and get their bodies into CFB shape.

I have been in the "yes please" camp on Patterson myself, but some of the counterarguments are pretty formidable:

1) People may be overrating the quality of player Patterson is.  There have been some good posts suggesting that he's compiled impressive stats against weak opponents and has been unimpressive against quality defenses.  Patterson is also a shorter QB who fits well in a spread type of offense--irrespective of overall talent he may not be as good a player in Michigan's system.

2) Bringing in Patterson may prompt Brandon Peters or possibly even Dylan McCaffrey to transfer--especially if Patterson only plays one season, this could present a long-term issue at the position.  This is apart from the very real possibility that Peters is a better QB (at least in the Harbaugh system) than Patterson, as well as the overall intangible effects of disruption and turnover at the QB position.

3) If any issues come up later around Patterson being involved in any recruiting violations at Ole Miss, he could potentially face a suspension or other sanctions.  There is no evidence suggesting Patterson actually was involved, but Ole Miss casts a pretty wide shadow.

I still think if Harbaugh is satisfied that the benefits outweigh the risks, then we should indeed pursue Patterson.  But I don't think the concerns people have raised are insignificant or easily dismissed.

I just want whoever gives us the best chance to win. If that's Peters, then that's great. But if Shea Patterson is the difference between losing to OSU for the 7th year in a row, or beating them in Columbus for the first time in 18 years, then grab a hold of him and don't let go.

Don't give a shit if he aims to be a one and done. Russell Wilson was a one and done and I don't think Wisconsin fans minded that at all. If he is that much of a difference-maker, if he can lead this team, and if he understands from the get-go that he'll have to earn the job and it won't be handed to him, then get his ass to Ann Arbor.

I would have to say this weekend is just as big as any other recruting weekend we have had. That is some talent coming to AA this weekend with some difference makers in there. Let's hope we get a few guys commit to us this weekend.
