View from the other side: Eleven Warriors on the Michigan v Army game

Submitted by Salinger on September 10th, 2019 at 8:20 AM

I try not to take myself (see: my Michigan fandom) too seriously so in light of last weeks... call it what you will... I found myself, thanks to Google's hyper-intelligent AI, served up an article from our friends over at Eleven Warriors giving their Columbus skewed Hawt Take on all things UofM v Army.

As a caveat, I generally like the writing those guys do over at Eleven Warriors, regardless of their adherence to  cooler pooperhood, so I thought to myself:

Self, if there are as many self-deprecating Michigan fans out there as you think there are, they might enjoy the self-inflicted drudgery of reading the thoughts and opinions of an Ohio State fanbase vis a vis the game last weekend as much as you did.

Neg me if you will (points ain't working now anyway) but this is the, shall we say, darker side of our fears being voiced from The Ohio University of Ohio. University.

Pretty hard to argue with most of what they have to say.  Seems like it has been a couple of years vs OSU that Michigan has had a game plan and playcalling that made much sense.

Yeah - I really enjoyed it and it was therapeutic is resetting expectations for the season, as well as how far UM needs to go to match OSU's talent.  Not looking good for the next few years regarding beating OSU.

I used to rely on the "law of averages" explanation for UM beating OSU.  However, seeing how we've beaten Indiana for 20 or so years and how ND beat Navy for like 40 years, I'm not saying that anymore.

I see no end in sight to the November hell that is OSU. I scheduled a trip with the S.O. that weekend to Vermont/Boston, so I don't have to watch it.

I hope they win. I really do. But everything since essentially the turn of the century makes me think otherwise. Because of the saltiness that comes with that loss for the rest of the weekend, I decided to remove the negativity from my life this year.

It’s so crazy to me how obsessed with Michigan the 11W staff is. Their cocky ass fans are worse. Congrats fellas, you beat FAU and Cincinnati. FAU might win 4 games and Cincinnati if they’re lucky they’ll win 7.

Their attempts at humor actually sorta work; I love a threat meter featuring the idea of shirtless Harbaugh dousing himself in milk.

The constant apologizing for Meyer covering up domestic abuse, less so.

Pretty funny about Shea. I don't think any Michigan fan will disagree until he stops fumbling the effing ball. But also, F Ohio right in the ear. Any adversity they face one day (if ever) will be a laugh, because they'll not be able to handle it. First call that goes against them in a game, which also never happens, the state will implode. After reading the comments, I expected much worse from that site.  Most posts were reasonable and not complete dumping.

Alas, when the fire from your rival starts to fade, its a bad sign.  They don't view us as a threat, and our coach is a laughing stock to them.  Even though they had two dirtbag coaches in the past 20 years, they beat us with impunity.  Hard to argue with results on the field.

Going into my shell now until next Sat.  Hopefully this was all a dream sequence.

I, for one, view UM as a threat every year. I grew up during the Cooper era, and we found a way to lose to you guys nearly every year, whether we had the better team or not. Even if OSU repeated the current run and won another 14 of 15, the fire for the rivalry will never fade. We (and by we, I mean the passionate/reasonable fans) will always take pride in The Game being the best rivalry in sports, and we'll always hate everything Maize and Blue.

As far as this year goes, while the results of the first two games for each team has me feeling more confident about The Game right now, I'm nowhere close to thinking that a win is inevitable. You're still the second most talented team in the conference, have a lot of senior leadership mixed with promising youth, and have some top tier coaches. I'm really interested to see how you guys come out against Wisconsin, because I think it could be a big sign of how the rest of the season will go.

Next up, Michigan travels to Wisconsin. It's going to go poorly for them. The Threat Level remains at GUARDED.

Let us know how they melt down when we win in Madison.

I can’t remember the last time Harbaugh actually had a good game plan for anyone. He gets out coached every week.

I logged in just to comment on this. I never comment but your post is the dumbest I've read in a while. They sure seem to have a great game plan against Wisconsin and Penn State last year when we destroyed them. We had a great terrible weather game plan against MSU as well when we held them to 93 yards on offense. That's just last year. Two of the four games against OSU we almost won because we had better game plans but got jobbed on a bad spot one year and had terrible QB play the next year. The other two years we got out coached. It happens. Other teams are good at football too.
