VIDEO: Wayne Lyons (#2)

Submitted by DGDestroys on

While there was ample film on Wayne Lyons when he came out of high school a few short years ago, such film from his time at Stanford is somewhat lacking, so I tried to fix the situation with...mixed luck. Since most Stanford blogs seem to indicate that Lyons took a fairly significant jump as a player during this past year under first-year CB coach Duane Akina, I only focused on this past year. The only problem with that is he split time, or was often completely frozen out of the rotation. After watching what I could find, it's hard to see exactly why-but I'll let you decide that for yourself. Anyway...

In all the videos, he plays Left Cornerback (that is, the QB's left). He rotates fairly heavily with #21 Ronnie Harris.

Lyons vs. Notre Dame (note-the highlight focuses on Alex Carter, the CB that got drafted by the Lions. Lyons will always be on the opposite side of the field, if he's in.)

Lyons vs. USC, rotates fairly regularly in this one. Didn't really let Agholor get anything going when he was covering him.

Lyons vs. UCLA, edited just to focus on him. Pretty good game for him.

Got pulled after the 2nd half for whatever reason.

see a big physical corner who is able to fight through blocks. Our secondary should really lay the wood this year. All these break downs of why we were bad are great and all but I am ready to see us punch teams in the mouth again.

My goodness...how did #25 get drafted?  I was watching the film first and I thought #25 was Lyons and I was thinking to myself "This guy is terrible, he plays 12 yards off the ball, and doesn't swing his arms when we runs.  This guy isn't going to play for Michigan and is a downgrade from countess.  #2 looks really good.  I wish we were getting him."  And then I read your clarification...

My assessment...Lyons will be a man-corner upgrade over Countess.  He's fast and stays on his man's hip pocket.  Seemed to have a little but of trouble shedding blocks from what I could see in the UCLA gametape.  We are going to have a very good secondary barring any injuries.
