Underclass Recruit Commitments

Submitted by Blazefire on
I was just reading the little fluff article on "Delay-oh", and something occured to me. The article talked about fit, and how Michigan will use Dileo versus what he's done in HS so far. I know that HS coaches are committed to helping their prospects get scholarships, be successful, and so on. My question is, say you had a junior recruit player who was a CB, and they were going to move him to Saftey in college, most likely. Is it common for HS coaches to make that move for the player's senior year of HS, so that the player can get some experience going before heading to college? I feel like that would be a good way for an HS coach to do their students a service.

at all levels seems to be about what is best for the team first and the individual players second. While a move may benefit one player, it could also cost a team a conference or state title. H. S. Coaches should and, by and large do, use players where they most benefit the H. S. team.

goes on a team by team, player by player basis. I think the coaches have the responsibility to their team to play players where they give the team the best chance to be successful. If a college team asks a coach to play a player somewhere, Id think hed get some reps in practice if he cant contribute to the team where the college coaches are asking him to be played.

Granted that if you are being recruited by the likes of a Michigan you are most likely the best player on your team and you will help your team no matter where you play. However, if there is not a decent second option at the position the player would be leaving, the coach would be doing a disservice to all of the other players on that team.

did that last year. Gordon was the QB but projected at safety in college so his coach moved him to defense to help him get that Michigan scholarship. But as the season went on and they got into the playoffs Gordon stopped playing as much defense because he was need at QB. Coaches want their stars to shine but you can't put players needs or future ahead of the team's success.
