We need to stop whining about it and get used to it, like every other top team has for years now.

If you are an elite team, you are going to play in prime time.

That's the way it is, it's not going to change.

It would be a sad day for us when nobody cared about seeing us in prime time.

It suggests its the only game of note going on. That's no longer the case, as Fox frequently has its own night game, not to mention other networks like ESPN or ESPN 2. Plus, this is an NBC game b/c it's in South Bend

Thus, I assume, we'll be going against the big ABC game of the week (could be Alabama - Louisville or Auburn - Washington), and likely something else.

Big ratings come when its a big game *and* there isn't as much competition for the time slot.

There are just so many games on at all hours of the day.

I agree Michigan-ND will be a high-rated game. But i just don't know what evidence there is that it would be lower rated at say, 3:30pm (like Auburn-Alabama was, when it was the highest rated game of the week and one of the highest of the year).

Are you assuming Brian Kelly is leaving? Did I miss something? I know they will be breaking in basically a brand new O-line. Don Brown has gone against Kelly before and had decent success but Michigan on the road at night against a team not named Rutgers usually doesn’t end well.

It seems like all our big games, sans OSU, will be at night. We could have ND and MSU at night depending on their record.

Normally, I'm not a fan of night games, but early season night game against ND sounds great. And as much as I hate this being on the road, we should be the more experienced team by far, so having this game as our opener might work to our advantage.

Did I miss a thread or something? Has Patterson joined the team and confirmed starter? Peters will be experienced too. I believe he can take notre dame as well..especially behind a good running game. Wimbush vs our defense will be awesome!

He's an intriguing talent, no question, but Peters is no slouch and managed to toss 4TDs (meh) but zero picks (!!) in his 64 attempts despite near constant pressure. Patterson is a bit of a gunslinger from the looks of it. After the tomato-can games against South Alabama and Tennessee-Martin, he tossed 8 picks against 8 TDs.

Patterson just seems like more of a high variance guy, could start, maybe not, maybe only if he gets the playbook down fast. Good to have him as an option, but don't pencil him in yet. Remember when we had O'Korn penciled in to start?

*Sigh*. Debbie Downer is here to point out the pos elephant in the room. 0-5 all time in night games at that cheap knockoff of Michigan Stadium. 1982: Lost 23-17. (Yes, Bo actually lost to Gerry Faust one time if you can wrap your brain around it.). 1988: Lost 19-17. (Despite Reggie Ho, we can win on the final play of the game with a Mike Gillette field goal that's easily in his range. Of course it's barely wide right. ND players then parade around like they crushed us by 7 touchdowns.) 1990: Lost 28-24. (Had a chance to go up 31-14 in the 3rd quarter. Grbac throws a stupid end zone interception from the 5 yard line. On a 4th down conversion attempt, the official is so desperate not to give us a first down that he measures it with an index card. We blow a 10 point lead in the 4th quarter. ND scores the game winner in the final minute.). 2012: Lost 13-6. (Outplayed them but Denard throws about 50 interceptions. Vincent Smith also throws an endzone interception.). 2014: I'm not even going to recap this one. Brady Hoke made a shitty Irish team look like Alabama. All the other night games at South Bend were winnable. But this was a train wreck from start to finish. I hate playing there at night. The worst possible thing always seems to happen at the worst time.

I hope we beat theee shit out of them. I have complete faith in Jim Harbaugh and crew to win yet another huge opening season game. Nothing about Notre Dame scares me. Can't wait for this one!

at South Bend is surprising given the drawing power of these schools, I would have thought it stupid to think otherwise.

Looking at the schedule for next season, I am greatly encouraged. Beating ND on opening night on the road will give us a huge first game edge. And I love our schedule next year, it's got the right tempo for builldup to our first-ever playoff appearance, and I truly believe with these Ole Miss transfers that is where we are headed.

I am so excited about how our coach is pushing the envelope with our roster.

Well fuck. Not surprised. Really need to win this game to show Harbaugh is on the right track. The 2014 game was the end of Hoke. If Michigan does lose I highly doubt it will be that ugly, but history is not on their side playing at night in South Bend.

Given how poorly new year rankings do anything but reflect last years results, ND should be ranked in the low teens again for that game, despite heavy player losses. Perfect.

Hopefully its a spectacular game but for the remainder of the season ND avoids doing the FSU bust.

However, Rick Meier is one of my worst formative memories from when I was getting interested in football. I'm still angry at Hoke for ruining our shutout streak. Iowa and Penn State have left me a bit gun-shy with Harbaugh at night. Facing them in the opener has also usually been bad for us. Hopefully coaching in the off-season can give us a solid chance.

Here’s the first notice. I’ve partnered w/a ND grad (law) and we’re having our first firm retreat in SB on a certain weekend in ‘18.

Food and drink on me. Pretty sure you know what day to put on the calendar. Specifics to come.

I like it to start the year. This team will be ready. What a statement win that woudl be to start the year. Hell yeah.

Only thing that sucks a bit is if it were noon I'd think about going...I can't handle the ND fans at a night game though. Maybe I'm just a sissy...probably that...but oh well.
