The UM Press Also Deserve Blame

Submitted by nickelsarcade on September 21st, 2019 at 3:54 PM

So tired of these pressers where no one asks any real questions of Harbaugh. Maybe they are afraid of getting cut out or would rather he like them, but they carry water for him. Every question should be about his failure to properly utilize TB, NC, and DPJ. If he doesn’t answer, ask again. Instead; they always sanitize the storyline. Same with Don Brown. He’s entertaining, sure, but has gotten absolutely rocked three seasons in a row for games we should have been prepared for - PSU two years ago, OSU last year, and now Wisconsin.

Baumgardner did go after him two weeks ago and Harbaugh’s response was: “Yeah, that’s low hanging fruit, Nick.  I’ve listened to your podcast. You’re an expert. On baseball as well.”

Like I said, Michigan is about marketing and teams like OSU are about winning.  Like someone posted earlier Michigan is a helmet, an overgrown stadium and a song.

Just responding to you inaccurate assertion that I’m a drunk and an idiot.  Both were incorrect. You don’t know me, plus I wasn’t talking to you in the first place.  You had to be a smart ass and jump in a conversation that really didn’t concern you.  I was merely standing up for a friend of mine that some poster decide to use an obscene comment that was totally uncalled for and crossed the line.  Sam has a family and this is his means of providing for his family..Instead of condemning the guy that called Sam a cocksucker, you decide to go after the guy who was merely defending a friend.  Great move. Btw, still no name.  Hiding behind your avatar, who’s being the internet tough guy??  How would you feel if your kids read that their dad was a cocksucker when you are really just doing your job?

that I’m a drunk and an idiot.

When you challenge/threaten people, yes, you are drunk and/or an idiot!!!

I wasn’t talking to you in the first place.

Don't care.  This is a public forum.

jump in a conversation that really didn’t concern you.

Again public forum.

Btw, still no name.

I googled kscurrie2... the only thing which came up were sneakers.

Hiding behind your avatar,

Another unhinged comment.  I'm not hiding behind anything.  There's nothing to indicate that I'm hiding -- just previously not going to lower myself to your level.

who’s being the internet tough guy??

Come to 125th and Lowell in Broomfield Colorado.  I'm in the Crofton Park development.  Lets see if your big mouth as tough as you think you are.  Like you said, you don't know me.

Sam Webb has to make a living. He can't blow up the team and still expect to make money. He said Lloyd Carr pulled his credential when he was just trying to inform them of something that someone else said. Once they straightened it out, he got it back. This program is too sensitive to take criticism.

But that's only natural. Hell you can see the exact same complaints going back to the ancient greeks even!

The key is not to buy into it.

Wiscy trounced it's teams and didn't give up a score. Michigan struggled mightily vs MTSU and Army (albeit a decent team) and won in OT at home, and looked very, very, very inconsistent.

Law of transitive properties doesn't work in sports, but those trajectories are not equivalent.

It doesn't matter who you are, to win 50+ pts and pitch 2 consecutive shutouts is amazing.

Bush, Winovich, Long, and Gary (in that order) were HUGE for this team. That can't be understated enough. And Higdon gave us at least 2 maybe 3 wins last year breaking tackles behind the LOS in game-breaking situations, hiding the holes at OL. He was the MVP of last year.

The holes have not been filled.

Yes, Michigan lost talent from last year.

1.  Bama, Clemson, etc., seem to win year after year after losing talent.

2.  Urban even said it... there's still NFL talent on *THIS* roster.

The excuse machine is getting really fucking old to be regressing like this in year 5.

The holes have not been filled.

If the "NFL talent" is at the skilled position, then that's great for those players, but that's not how you win games/championships.

We even picked up grad transfer Danna, and converted Mason to DT because we had like 5 DL leave in the last 2 years (DIB, Solomon, etc.)

There's no Bush-like guy waiting in the wings, and the current DL has two good rush/speed guys, but aren't going to get the push you need from a heavy 285-300lb DT.

But also the O-Line has been mediocre to atrocious, and today was atrocious.

Nothing is an excuse, it's all on the coaches/recruiting.

The LOS as whole seems to be the weakest part of this team, and that's a very, very bad place to be.

The press can stop blowing fucking smoke up the fanbases ass. We get all these awesome reports and get us hyped up and then we all crash on game day. These assholes are salesmen, nothing else. Need the clicks. Need the subs, need the listeners. We are sold that Michigan is great and they're not.

So don't breath the smoke, and use your own mind. All of us saw how ugly the first two games were. This year is going to be like those dark years where we can't win any competitive games because the team has holes, and seems ill prepared, and certainly isn't Wisconsin or OSU.

So do we. Every time our complaining forces a major coaching or philosophical change on the program, we dramatically regress.

They like to talk rainbows and unicorns, but can't come to criticize the problems.  Not that the coaches are going to provide worthwhile answers anyway.

You can ask great questions all you want, but if the coach isn’t going to answer them thoroughly it doesn’t matter. JH doesn’t say a lot in pressers. That’s just how he is. Blaming the press is weak. And it’s also not for a lack of scrutiny. Coach at Michigan is one of the most high pressure jobs, partially because there is a lot of media around you.

I don’t care about Webb, Jansen etc. Their jobs aren’t to provide hard hitting journalism. Webb’s primary job is recruiting insider and that’s what he’s best at. I’ve never given his analysis any second thoughts.
