Thread-jacking to update the WMU vs Northeastern game, tied at 1 apiece and now going to overtime.

Western led the whole way until NE scored at approximately the 3:30 mark in the 3rd.

Oh lord here we go again. With two years of no tournament due to covid, it's been a while since I've experienced some good NCAA tournament terror

I'm quite surprised this is Western's first tourney win ever. I know they haven't really been world destroyers historically, but zero wins prior to this? Wow

Sort of surprising, but then this is only their 8th tournament appearance. That puts them 37th out of 56 teams that have appeared in the tournament all time. The last decade under Murray (plus the bookend single years of Blashill and now Ferschweiller) have has been solid for WMU but it's a little misleading historically speaking. Certainly their best period since the late 80s/early 90s.

Also they should have won in 2011 against Denver but gave up two late goals and lost in OT. That was a crushing loss.

No doubt.  Their skill ability to gain the zone stick handling combined with how well they are cycling the puck deep is making this game look like it might get ugly fast.

That play by Hughes… I went from “noooo…” to “fuck yes!” in less than a second.  Stickhandling through three guys from the blue line!

We got that pivotal first early goa . . .

Holy shit, we got a second goal while I was typing about the first goal.

I better hit "save" quick.

There’s a simple rule: if Michigan can’t draw fans to the venue, we shouldn’t play at that venue. We fill basketball arenas in Wichita, San Antonio, LA, and DC. Hockey is too much of a niche sport to get fans to Allentown on a Friday afternoon.

Put the games on campus sites and reward teams for earning a top seed. It would be a better advertisement for the atmosphere of college hockey. The status quo embarrasses the sport.

FWIW, I was at the game in San Antonio last night.  It was definitely not filled. :) I'd say Michigan and Nova fans were split about 50/50, but most people where UH, UA, or neutral.

Michigan also didn't fill Dallas in 2013 -- there were lots of empty seats to the Elite 8 game once the Kansas fans left town.

Hockey still shouldn't be in Allentown though. :)

These ESPN guys must have been toking something pre-game, were just babbling about Jimmy Page, Led Zep, and Luke Hughes 🥴
