Top 247 for 2017 released
247 Sports released their top 247 prospects for 2017. I have been saying for a while that I think 2017 is going to be a very good class within the state, and I think there are probably even a couple more Michigan kids who might deserve to be on this list.
So far they have Donovan Peoples-Jones, JaRaymond Hall, Josh Ross, Ambry Thomas, and Jaylen Kelly-Powell, and Corey Malone-Hatcher in their top 183 prospects. Michigan has offered all of those guys except Thomas.

I think we have good shots with all of the guys we have offered. Michigan went ahead and offered them early. Kelly-Powell grew up a Michigan fan, and Josh Ross's brother already plays here. Peoples-Jones's dad went to Michigan, too, but he's a big-time recruit who could go anywhere, so I'm not sure about him. I also think JaRaymond Hall is likely to end up at Michigan, but he's a little newer to the recruiting scene.
Ambry Thomas is a speedy kid from Detroit King. He's a little on the small side but might be the fastest football player in the state. I'm interested to see if Michigan will go after him or not.

You would hope that the whole Mikey Weber situation would have soured that school for at least a little while.
Luckily there are 3 Top 247 WRs in Ohio for 2017 as well. OSU won't be taking all of them and Peoples so we'll get our guys. Even if we lose him, there's a good chance we replace him with a quality option, especially if we can get a top 2017 QB early in the process.
Mike Onwenu, in particular, soured on the Buckeyes after the Weber incident.

It's possible, but like WolvinLA2 says, the Ohio State/Mike Weber thing might make any Technicians think twice about going to Columbus. I'm not saying we'll get him, but I think we have a good shot.
is important. Position of need and we need to get Cass Tech kids coming back to the good guys.
as to why Thomas doesn't seem to be on the radar?
I think he's on the radar; he just hasn't been offered yet. He's listed at 5'11", 165 lbs., but I doubt he's that tall and he's still very light. I think it sort of depends on what Michigan wants/needs at the corner position, but I would not be surprised if he gets offered soon. It's probably only a matter of time.
may have been a bit much - but your point about UM offering everyone else early...and nothing for Thomas...just seemed odd.
Thanks for the insight.

I think you are right. If you look at 2016 CB offers, all kids who hold offers are 5-10 or taller.

I have a good friend who works in Spring Lake and knows someone from Detroit.

You did a weird name drop connection thing. Doesn't everyone love french toast. I met the guy who invented it. Give some more info next time.
My cousin briefly dated the guy who invented Snausages.

I saw no issue with your post. You made a post with some info about a recruit (that wasn't readily available) and you gave it credibility by stating your connection to Detroit youth football. I'm not sure why you got any trouble for that.
Lots of hyphens.
2017 WR class looks really strong. At this point there are 8 5-star WR. For comparison, there are only 2 5-star WR in the 2016 class.
Of the top 8 WR in the 2017 class, 4 have offers from Michigan.
Does it have to do with non-skill players tend to move up after more evaluation?
Do you remember how many WR started as 5-stars in the 2016 class?
I don't remember how many there were, but I have noticed over the past few cycles (since I type up these lists often) that skill players are ranked abnormally high, especially wide receivers. That might be partly because of the way the game is played today with spread offenses, lots of receivers, etc., but it can get ridiculous at times. Especially with these early lists, it seems like 1/3 or 1/4 of the guys in the top 50 are receivers...but good luck finding any centers, guards, or inside linebackers.

i see why more skill players in general but not sure why more WR rather than CB or RB (though i never really noticed prevalence of WRs). i know WR is usually the easiest and best way to get younger (or less experienced) athletes onto the field to impact hs games. much more common for athletic freshman to jump in at WR and make plays vs say LB or OT or QB.
bw highlight tapes and camp type events, im not surprised skill position players dominate these early lists. obviously camps and 7v7 events tailor to skill guys, and skill players stand out easier for these scout type dudes watching tape. plus the best athletes typically play in either backfield or on outside on the edge, even more so when kids are younger and smaller % of kids are developed / matured. obviously bigger kids usually take longer to develop, grow into their bodies, etc so seems pretty natural theyre not weighing down these early lists. sites should move up more non-skill players later in process after further evals, tracking offer lists of kids, physical / technical development of bigger body players, etc

and go with Shawn Kemp.
I think Antonio Comartie has him beat.
The children of Shawn Kemp, Travis Henry, and Antonio Cromartie could probably fill out a pretty good college football roster. That's assuming five of Kemp's kids get the Fat Kemp gene and not the Ripped Kemp gene so you could throw together an offensive line.

ha yeah, travis henry situation is just remarkable - i think i read its like 12 kids with 10-11 women or something

I'm adding "The Children of Shawn Kemp" to my list of possible band names.

The Children of Wilt Chamberlin ? They are what 10,000 strong, and at least seven feet high ?
There was an article in Sports Illustrated not long ago about a Wilt Chamberlin kid. He's not 7' feet tall or any kind of athlete.

Wow 2016 and 2017 clases have been really strong in the state. Would love to see that continue. Much easier than pulling everyone out of the south.
All but 2 ofMichigans 2017 offers are not in the Top247

According to the 247 Composite rankings, he's closer to a 3-star than a 5-star.
