TomVH Twitter Interview w/ Tate's Dad

Submitted by MGoShoe on

As noted below, Michael Rothstein of A2.com got this one line post-game interview with Tate:

“All you need to know is I’m out.” - Tate Forcier

Less than a minute had passed since the Michigan football team beat Connecticut, 30-10, in the season opener and sophomore quarterback Tate Forcier appeared to make his decision.

Through his words and his body language, he had no interest in remaining at Michigan. When asked if he had a minute, he responded with those eight words.

Those eight words said a lot.

As the rest of his teammates celebrated a win, Forcier looked like he lost.

Our man, TomVH got the interview with Mike Forcier:

Talking to Mike Forcier right now, MGoBlog is down, so I don't have anywhere to write this right now, but again says "No transfer."

Tom says he's about to post the whole interview, so I won't bother posting the rest of his tweets.  Bottom line: IIt appears that Tate did not mean what Rothstein thought he meant.

Love the kid, but if he's going to pout everytime he doesn't get the ball, then ship out.  If you're staying, shape up, and do it fast.  The seniors, Cal, and Rod will not stand for it.

It isnt as bad as it first seems - we're going to need him. At the same time, he certainly didn't play the part of being 'all in'. Not celebrating with your team? His attitude is what's going to keep him on the bench and apparently it's bad enough that DG's redshirt was burned in the first game. I'd love to see the kid out there and he's got the talent to be a great complement to D Rob

From Tom's twitter feed: Tate's dad is quoted thus - "We knew disciplinary action was coming."

Let's not judge the kid too swiftly. Perhaps he could have done better on the sideline today but let's also try and imagine - and empathise with - what he must have been feeling.

I suspect that he'll play a fair bit this year. If he gets his head right...

I hope that happens.

Ok, take this with a grain of salt since I've been enjoying UM's win a little too much, but here's my thoughts on Forcier's future:

The kid devoted his entire life to football and basically watched his football future vanish tonight (i.e. Robinson looked good enough to hold on to the starting spot and Gardner was a serviceable back up - seriously did anyone else see those sideline shots, that was absolutely painful), but he still has the skills to play D1 football.  Why would he not want to transfer?  He's in a position where he could play (and probably start) elsewhere, but it's looking like not here.  Let the kid pursue his dream.  As long as he puts in the work to be a solid contributer this season, let him do what's best for him next season.  I don't want to see a kid's dream crushed just to feel a little more comfortable.

Uh, devil's advocate and all that...
