Today's Schedule of Games

Submitted by M-Dog on September 10th, 2022 at 11:01 AM

Some interesting games today, if not very meaningful games.

At Noon on FOX: #1 Alabama at Texas.  I’m surprised that Alabama let this game be scheduled.  Out of conference, on the road, P5 opponent.  And not even at a neutral site.  Yet here we are.  Someday, this will be a big game for Alabama and not just Texas.  But not today.  Alabama rolls.

In the Afternoon at 3:30 on ABC: #24 Tennessee at #17 Pittsburgh.  Pitt is riding high after beating WVU in the Backyard Brawl.  They will carry over that high today and take care of Tennessee at Heinz, er, Acrisure Stadium this afternoon.

Also in the Afternoon at 4:00 on BTN: Iowa State at Iowa.  ¡El Assico!  https://www.bannersociety.com/2019/9/9/20856722/iowa-iowa-state-rivalry-el-assico  You know you want to.  Iowa scored only 7 points last week – just one touchdow . . . no wait, just a field goal and two safety’s.  The most Iowa thing ever.  But ¡El Assico! will probably be like 57 – 55 in 4 OTs.

In the Evening at 7:00 on ESPN: #20 Kentucky at #12 Florida.  Florida gets two night games in a row in the muggy Swamp against ranked opponents to show they are back.  They will cash that in against Kentucky and keep it rolling into the Top Ten.

Also in the Evening at 7:30 on ABC: #10 USC at Stanford.  What a contrast in approaches.  Stanford has 1 Transfer on its roster.  USC has 33 Transfers.  (In fairness though, it might be a little bit harder to transfer into Stanford than USC.)  Talent versus experience.  I think USC gets organized enough to break through on this one and win.

Also in the Evening at 8:00 on BTN: Hawaii at #4 Michigan.  I don’t know what kind of contractual obligation voodoo went on to make this a night game on BTN, but night game on BTN game it is.  This game is all about JJ McCarthy of course.  We all know he is talented, but has he overcome his biggest weakness that has kept him from being the starter: rifling the ball at 300 mph into triple coverage under pressure?  Harbaugh hates that.  Problem is, we probably still won’t know that answer after tonight.  Hawaii is not likely to create that meaningful pressure.  JJ will look great, but we won’t really learn anything.

Finally, Late Night at 10:15 on ESPN: #9 Baylor at #21 BYU.  This may wind up being be the best game of the day . . . that nobody will see.  But regardless of who is watching, BYU lives for this moment, and will upset Baylor after midnight EST.

Iowa-Iowa State ¡El Assico! write up has the feel of MGoBlog main page articles. After describing the awful history of games played in the rivalry, you get this:

Q. Should I watch?

A. Oh hell yes!

El Assico is definitely the Sickos game of the week. I took the under with a tease (44 points) and feel comfy with the bet. However, if the over hits, I guarantee it’ll be because Iowa’s D outscores both offenses combined.

Quinn Ewers looking very sharp against Alabama.  And Worthy is getting behind the Alabama secondary.

Can you imagine if we had Worthy like we were supposed to?

Two thoughts looking at this.

1) I want Arkansas to crush South Carolina. SC is firing the money cannon this cycle and they have emerged at a significant threat for Nyckoles Harbor.

2) Speaking of road games at Texas, 2024 UM at Texas with a fully weaponized senior J.J. McCarthy against a sophomore Arch Manning. That's a Hold onto your Butts game.

Just catching up on this game.  Very cheap shot by 15 on Ewers driving his shoulder into the ground and landing on him.  Klatt foolish comment he did not mean to.  Clueless. Bama loaded with talent, but  bad karma coming after that dirty play.

One big surprise is down in Austin where its a 10-10 vs 'Bama. The #1 tailback for 'Bama had to be held out after getting hit running the ball.

Duke was drubbing NW in Evanston 21-0 in the 2nd quarter. Doesn't look good for the Wildcats.

The early B1G games are snoozers, at least so far.
