Thoughts on the Wisconsin comeback

Submitted by littlebrownjug on

What a comeback! Here are a few general thoughts.

1. Every time that I see Obi Ezeh play I appreciate him more. He is the best LB to play here in a while.

2. Let's just let Threet chuck it like Drew Brees with a zone read thrown in every know and then. I love to see the team actually stretch the field vertically instead of just horizontally.

3. Stevie Brown actually looked okay today. Maybe, he is learning?

4. It was nice to see Carlos Brown play more today, because I think he was made for this offense.

5. Wow, does our conference look bad! Wisconsin did not play like a top 20 team today, and our only chance for a national champion caliber team is PSU. While I think it is clear that the SEC and Big 12 are much better, we should have lots of competition with our mediocre parity.

6. I could not believe that the coaches took so long to adjust, but I congratulate them on what we saw in the second half. If we play like that early against a team that has more than one dimension offensively we will be hosed (PSU, OSU).

7. I really liked Wisconsin's front 7, as their linebackers could really run and their line was perpetually in the backfield.

8. I wonder if our returners will actually carry the ball in the appropriate arm next week?

9. I still do not think we are a bowl team yet, but I feel much more confident about our ability to be competitive in the Big Ten.

the worst best game I have been to in a long time! The place was like a funeral parlor turned circus.. AWESOME> I think they gelled a a team during this game. And man the D looked like they were taking heads out there (except for afew plays).

The defense kept us in the game.  Just so proud to be a M fan today!!!!

What I noticed was Threet was pressing the game instead of taking what the defense was giving him in the first half.  Michigan's offense will have to set up the run by passing first.  The "Barwis" factor is for real!  When this offense gets on track good luck stopping it.  Coach Rod had alot of balls sticking with Threet and not giving Sheridan a shot.  Michigan's secondary is not lights out.  Steven Threet is not a dual threat QB but is one tough  player and Michigan is lucky to have him.  Booing at Michigan Stadium is just wrong!

i love obi and he will be a great LB for us. but, best LB to play here in a while? how bout just 2 years ago when David Harris was on the squad. he was the most underappreciated player on defense. i loved watching him command the D.

did anyone else notice this:

1st half: 80% run, no passing more than slot screens really. result: 5 TO, 0 points, 21 yds of offense
2nd half: probably closer to 50/50 run pass with the ability to pass downfield. 27 points. 0 TO, 247 yds of offense.

we need to stop coming out and running ourselves into 3rd and long on every single drive of the first half till we get down by 2 or 3 scores and we have to pass.

Threet just wasn't on his game in the first half.  I think that's the reason for being more run-oriented.

I think in the second half when they went into that 4-wide set they only gave Threet one read.  If that read wasn't open then he ran, if the run was going to be stuffed he had the option to look downfield for someone, if not throw the ball away.  It seemed like he kept his eye on his first read, but I could be wrong.

Also - Martin and Mouton.  Awesome job yesterday.
