Wasn't that Gary Grant?

Now that I'm looking at the guys from the Grant/Tarpley days, I can't help but think Bill Frieder underachieved big time while he was here.  I'm not old enough to know this for sure.  But I don't think the 1989 team wins the title with him as head coach.

A friend of mine asked me before the tournament started in 89 what I thought Michigan would do. I told him “out the first weekend, unless Frieder has a has a heart attack and can’t coach the team, then they’ll win it all”.

He did underachieve, big time.

Disagree. We could shell Rutgers and the  fan base will shrug and say “eh, Rutger, still gonna lose by 1000 to teams with a pulse.” On the other hand some mild struggles against Rutgers and we may see some real crazy come out. Rutgers is the don’t f@&k it up game and Iowa is the game to get some mojo back. They have looked like... Iowa... this season so a win would at least put us back in the plausible season category and not the death throes category
