I remember the '06 ND game when Michigan whipped #2 ND in SB 47-21. That is when I thought this team could make the BCS bowl game. The defense just could not handle the running QB when they played OSU and USC torched our secondary in the 2nd half of the Rosebowl but overall it was a fun season for the team.

It really wasn't a running QB that did us in against OSU, it was lack of elite speed in our defensive secondary (that is starting to become a pattern it would seem).  The threat of Troy Smith running did allow them to exploit five wide formations a couple of times that our coaches were (as usual) slow to respond to with any personnel counters, but our safeties in particular got completely toasted by Ginn early on and by Wells throughout the game.  Our interior line came in for some of the blame for getting owned on two of Wells' runs, but we were trotting out Harrison and Englemen at safety.  They were really good at being "boring," so they worked for the most part, but neither of those huge Wells runs should have been TDs.  15 yarders?  Sure.  But absolutely not touchdowns.  It also took Engleman like 20 minutes to get home on a safety blitz on the first series on f-ing 3rd and 15 that resulted in a Ginn 40 yarder catch.  He gets home there or at least even forces a hurry and that game is seriously ours.

Minus 2005, these were the last of the good Carr years. I think Harbaugh has us back at this level. I would be very surprised if we ever see 7-5 again, as long as Harbaugh is coach. I hope Jim can hurdle this team over the top and win the B1G and go to the playoffs in the next 3 seasons.

Agree with the last good Carr years; unfortunately some of the politics behind his exit leave a sour taste in my mouth though.

Harbaugh has them back to this level? I don't think so, not yet. We're better off now than under Hoke and Dick Rod, but I don't think Michigan is executing like they did back then. M was competing on a national level...still haven't done that.

Good to have rose colored glasses though!

2016 we were one play away from going to the playoffs. 2017, Hokes last two recruiting seasons caught up to us. 2018 was a solid season until we went down to Columbus, thinking it would be a game we should win and got caught flat footed (plus our defensive injuries did not help), and two of our top players sat out of the bowl game. 2019 should be a fun season with hopefully a much more dynamic offense. I think our young D will improve through the season.
