Now that we’re within the final 5 days the videos will begin to hit a climax. With the Rose Bowl standing between a third-straight amazing Michigan season and a season that dwarfs the other two, what better way to get this home stretch started than with the one that has been celebrating a silver anniversary this year and won the Wolverines the National Championship…

Enjoy it in full!

For today’s jewelry we continue the reversion to watches. Though I cannot find a glimpse of the one that was probably awarded to the Michigan players who traveled to Arizona for last year’s Fiesta Bowl, we can assume that it is likely similar to the one Fossil made for a certain team who played the same semifinal in 2019:

Except, yknow, without any shit stains...

See if this sounds vaguely familiar: today’s featured Michigan Marching Band release was supposed to be next Nix-era record The Maize Album (2009), but after failing to find anything about it beyond just encyclopedic listings I decided to move away from the MMB-specific discography for THE SEQUEL to perhaps the most famous compilation album in college band history…

LISTEN: Internet Archive has samples available for every song

BUY: Independent record store Darkside Records has ONE COPY for only $5, Discogs has 12 vinyl listings, Amazon has 2 vinyl listings, eBay has tons of vinyl and reel-to-reel listings,

I was looking forward to this post for a while -- as soon as I realized you were making your way through the list of MMB recordings. I played tenor sax on the Maize Album. I've looked for copies at the MDen and online over the past few years to see if I could find a copy to have on hand, or maybe give as a gift to family members, but it feels like it's been erased from history.

I've got MP3 files on an old laptop somewhere, but having a hard copy again would be nice. I was hoping you'd find an obscure source, but it looks like your search was about as fruitful as mine!

If I'm able to find the files, maybe I'll find a way to share them with you and the blog. It's got some fun arrangements by then-director Scott Boerma and other MMB legend and fellow tenor saxophoneist John Stout (RIP).

Thanks for putting these together and for drawing attention to different highlights of the marching band's history!
