Terrific drill down on hockey’s new practice and warm-up principles under coach Naurato

No joke, this is one of the best in-depth analyses of hockey activity that I have ever read. Real detail on Michigan’s new warm-up and practice routines and what they do. The article runs through the influence Pep Guardiola’s soccer coaching techniques have had as well; Guardiola is the best there is, and his ideas have revolutionized the sport.

Worth the read.

There’s also a companion piece with some more thoughts.

edit: hat tip to @yostbuilt for all of this.

This was the feature in today's newsletter from the folks at Hockey IQ Podcast.  If you're looking for an additional source for in-depth hockey analysis, I'd recommend it for a listen.  They've been very high on Michigan hockey recently and have been detailing related concepts you find in hockey and soccer (rondos here, creating space in prior publications).  Here's a piece on defenseman deception featuring Seamus Casey.

Ed: Ah, yes, just noted the reference to Ravek, it's a joint piece.  The crossover makes sense now.  :)

Most of the truly transformational head coaches in sports have been cerebral, analytical types who develop or adapt new kinds of approaches to their game, as opposed to the meatheads who just rely on emotional appeals.

Naurato certainly is in the first category.

This was seriously incredible and awesome. No wonder Naurato was considered a rising coaching star.

He got the opportunity quicker than he normally would have...but alright.

Much like Pep he's getting the chance to coach his old team, early on.

Pep is a legend. I live in Spain. For years Ive tried to explain to friends here without any success the similarities between his style and the cycling of hockey, especially the first years when the Russians came to play for Detroit. You could write a master's thesis on the comparisons of Busquets and Larionov.

Thanks for posting. I just thought I was the only nut who saw this.

Incredible content.  This should have resided on the main page longer.  Super excited about the player development emphasis and fully expect it to translate on the scoreboard.  Also feel like it is a great story to tell to recruits to keep the pipeline filled with talent.
