Terrance Taylor picked up by Lions
Lions signed him to the practice squad. This isn't really that newsworthy so there isn't much print about it. Just a small blurb in the Freep. Not worth linking so as to give them any clicks. Since he and I share Alma Maters (High School and College), I wish him well. Too bad for him, at least for now, it's with the Lions.

I wonder how much of these personnel decisions (at least for practice squad players) are based on bringing in players from local universities in order to get fans excited if they ever end up making the roster/starting. I've gotta imagine that there's dozens of capable DTs out there trying to play football and who could have filled in just fine in that spot.

Possibly.
However, when these players are unsigned, I doubt that there is much of a gap in talent between them. If you are looking for someone to add to the practice squad, why not take the local guy?
TT is young and has potential. No risk here for the Lions.
