TE Nauta to Announce Jan 9th
4th Q of AA game.
Most believe headed to GA but at minimum it helps UM clean up its recruiting board by mid Jan and put full court press on others in final month, post dead period.. The fewer moving parts on NSD the better.
Make sure y'all tune in , especially in the 4th quarter #finaldecision pic.twitter.com/yus3soaTK6

Auburn almost had to do that. Frost committed to them at one of the AA games and they were full. Had to get creative to find him a spot. If it wasn't for the fact that we sucked at the time we probably would have gotten him.
December 22nd, 2015 at 9:14 AM ^
If Nauta is announcing on Jan 9th, we should announce that the Michigan spot has been taken on January 8th.
Harbaugh would not do that because he in not a small, petty, spiteful person.
But I would.

The strange part about this is that I think he moved to Florida just to play high school football... if you'll move OOS to play HS ball, why wouldn't you do the same for college?

WD will be watching for his name on a student directory (maybe - yes wishful thinking - he enrolls for class by the 5th) and announces on the 9th. Doubt it though - likely UGA.

After everything that has gone down at Georgia, the only way they are still in the top three is if they are where he's actually heading. With Coach Harbaugh's history with TEs and the you-know-what storm at Georgia, we have no more bullets to fire. I wish it were different, but dude was a Bulldog all along.
December 22nd, 2015 at 8:35 AM ^
I agree. But at this point I must ask a pertinent question: why have a "top 3" if he already knows? Why not just announce for Georgia and get it done?
December 22nd, 2015 at 8:51 AM ^
He wants the attention and to be able to announce at the Army All-American Bowl on National television.
December 22nd, 2015 at 9:09 AM ^
Can't have a cool Hat Dance without some cool hats:
Georgia - the school he actually intends to go to,
Alabama - the darling of the SEC region where he lives,
Michigan/Harbaugh - the "buzz" team for TE's.
If you think about it, it's a very good choice of Hat Dance teams from a theatrics point of view.
Unfortunately from our point of view, that's all it is.

Just asking the question is criticizing him. Let's not forget the story that Sam Webb related yesterday re OSU fans criticizing a possible recruit on a message board and him mother reading about it.
December 22nd, 2015 at 1:25 PM ^
Wasn't attempting to criticize, but carry on.
December 22nd, 2015 at 8:48 AM ^
Given the new coach hire at Georgia, probably Issac knows more about the Harbaughs than Smart. Besides, he definitely knows he will be well coached for the NFL.
December 22nd, 2015 at 8:55 AM ^
If he chooses Michigan, it would be the best kept secret because NOBODY is talking about him going to Michigan.
December 22nd, 2015 at 9:09 AM ^
Does anyone else find the: "If you were a TE why would you NOT play for Harbaugh?" a little bit short sighted?
Don't get me wrong, I understand the Harbaugh TE affect. He's excellent at identifying and developing talent.
My thinking is this, however:
1) These are 18 yr old kids
2) To assume that "best guy to develop my talent long term" is the primary deciding factor is to completely ignore #1.
3) Are there or are there not a lot of other factors that determine where a person goes to college, collegiate athlete or otherwise?
I'm not saying "Harbaugh can get me to the NFL" shouldn't be a factor. I'm not saying going in another direction isn't maybe an ill-informed decision. I'm saying, "Why would you NOT..." is simple rhetoric for a tough rest-of-your-life decision, especially when you consider how hard it is to make it to the NFL in the first place.
December 22nd, 2015 at 9:29 AM ^
If he wants to be a TE in the NFL, Harbaugh is a proven path to go on. Just this season alone is evedence of that.
Can he get there other ways, i.e. Georgia? Of course, but there is much less margin of error than with Harbaugh. There are literally millions of dollars riding on the decision.
Michigan was not my first choice emotionally, but I went there anyway because it had a much more proven program in my area of interest than my local, more comfortable schools. I made a "business decision", not an emotional decision, even at a young age. It does happen.
December 22nd, 2015 at 10:00 AM ^
Good for you, really, but it is easy to see an 18 year old saying my family is so important to my success that I need to stay home.
Is is likely that he has a better chance to play in the NFL if he goes Blue? Sure, probably.
But what if he needs immediate family support (for whatever reason) and so if he comes to Michigan he loses that support, making it a lot harder for him to play great football and had little chance to make it to the NFL.
Contrived? Maybe. But I think its a definite possibility.

To add to what others have said, a lot of kids don't make decisions based on "logic". Also they grew up in an era where UM was a broken program. Yes Harbaugh but still. Some times people here sound like Georgia is a nobody in the Mountain West - if you grew up in Michigan your whole life and we ran a spread and you were a TE and you loved Michigan, you might still want to still go to Michigan.
To that end here is where the top 2016 TEs are going. I also will put 2017 below because a lot of top TEs are already committed VERY early and they have not chosen Michigan either; we have a very under the radar type committed. So while "logical" to go Harbaugh thus far we have not gotten traction at that position in recruiting - a bit strange.
2016
- Nauta - Undecided
- Smith - Stanford
- Hausmann - OSU
- Upshur - FSU (UM was a leader for a while)
- Cooley - Ole Miss
- Farrell - OSU
- Pettigrew (NTP) - LSU
- Rice - Auburn
- Angeline - USC
- Mathis - Undecided (Florida v UM)
- Hawkins - OSU (apparently they have 3 TEs??)
- Angel - Ole Miss (they have 2 top 12 TEs, $$$)
Alabama also has the 15th and 18th rated TEs.
Moving ahead a year, 4 of the top 5 already committed.
2017
- Wright - Notre Dame
- Bryant - Undecided
- James - Baylor
- Kmet - Notre Dame
- Parkinson - Stanford
#6 thru #11 are uncommitted but I've only heard UM involved with 1 at this point - Jimmy Jaggers out of California. Dunaway is #28.
1 theme is all these programs have been winning a lot more than UM. Even ND who was in a NC game when these kids were just entering HS.

I agree. By that logic, if you were a top DB prospect you should go to Pitt to play for Narduzzi, if you were a top QB prospect you should go to Baylor to play for Briles, etc. But I wouldn't want to go to Pitt or Baylor. It's something to consider, but there's a lot that goes into choosing a college, and it's silly to criticize recruits for not being more narrowly focused than any of us would be.
December 22nd, 2015 at 10:06 AM ^
By the same logic Jourdan Lewis should be going to the NFL this year, but he isn't.
December 22nd, 2015 at 10:10 AM ^
I made a factual statement about getting our asses kicked by our rivals a couple weeks ago and everyone jumps on the "he's a troll" bandwagon. Got neg'd to hell and back...which I don't really care because I've never posted. I can appreciate optimism but sometimes you have to look at facts and reality and for some that is too painful I guess. My point is that a lot of peoples "reality" around here revolves soley on homerism. So you can throw logic out the window when it comes to why people think recruits picking other schools over us is unbelievable.

Like the caller to Sam's show this morning said he should look at OJ Howard's production as well to see how Bama "uses" the TE position. Since Smart came from there and Bama is the 3rd team in his top 3.
OJ Howard was a monster recruit coming out of HS and I remember the reports on his dominating 7 on 7 workouts during that year's recruiting season.
