Tate Bashing

Submitted by Ziff72 on
Was I watching a different 12 games this year?? I saw some Tate bashing on the liveblog and on some posts the last couple of weeks. For the people that are down on him, I ask you what do you want?? The kid was a true freshmen who lead some pretty gutsy comebacks. He was hurt for 2/3 of the season, his center was hurt, his top RB was hurt, his #2 rb was hurt, his line wilted on their pass protection and their is still talk of wanting Gardner in there. His accuarcy was remakable for a true frosh and he should get a lot healthier and stronger in the offseason. I think this kid will be a M legend before he is done, not replaced.

Chris leak wasn't 6 feet tall and pat white didn't weigh 200 lbs. The country is filled with 6' 190 lb running backs that carry the ball 20 times a game with no problem. Plus, you keep referring to your audience as 'people' which is very condescending, and then say things like I can't help you, which makes me wonder how someone with so few knowledgeable opinions gets so arrogant.

good start, -40 already. And if that run against ND didn't impress you, it sure impressed the hell out of me. He left the defenders jock strap on the field and it made Sportscenter. And in case you didn't notice, our defense had alot to do with a few losses.

Now this is a dumb post. First, who is Gardener? Second, let's not forget that he was a true freshman. He needed to make smarter plays at times but that will come with more on the field maturity. Like I said in a previous post, I don't think he should go un-criticized but this is completely stupid. He will get bigger with age and he is faster than you are suggesting. I was pretty impressed with his feel for the game and ability to read defenses, early in the season. It wasn't until after his injuries, when he started to make "poor decisions". This isn't the day of Doug Flutie??? But Chase Daniels and the dude from Kansas (sorry, can't remember his name) didn't seem to struggle because of their size. Tate will be fine. I said it earlier, I didn't like his off the field stuff at times. But he showed flashes of brilliance on the field and I don't see any reason to believe he won't continue to get better. Devin Gardner sounds like the real deal but if they open next year with another first time starter....

Chase Daniels was 225-230 and we don't run the same offense as Kansas. Are you saying you would be happy with the amount of success Kansas has had. Yeah they throw the ball 50 time for 400 years a game but when they go against a real Oklahoma team they get smoked. The year they went 12-1 they didn't even play the Sooners. They went 5-7 this year with the smoke and mirror offense. I see I'm getting negative points for telling my honest opinion which goes to show you why the the State of Michigan is in the condition it's in. I love Michigan football and the State of Michigan but if fail to to adapt properly people the Michigan football will go the way of basketball team, the auto industry, and the City of Detroit. We aren't that far from being Notre Dame with fans like yourself.

Don't worry, rivals said there is a 5 star governor who likes us. He has never been a governor before but looked fantastic in high school government and mock UN. I hear we are going to blindly give him complete authority based on that alone. You should be thrilled.

Giving your honest opinion is great. My honest opinion is that you don't know what you are talking about. I brought up Missu and Kansas because you said you can't succeed with small QB's. Was Daniels 225-230 when he was a freshman? I doubt it. I don't think you are wrong for criticizing Tate. I just think you are going overboard. Were you saying all of that when they were 4-0? I'd bet you weren't. How you somehow find parallel's between this post and the condition of the State of Michigan, shows how delusional you really are. You want a 5 star QB, right? Look on Rivals and tell me what Gardner is right now? Tate will be much better next year and I'm sure you will be one of the guys touting him for the Heisman. I'm sure you tell everyone how you wanted Tom Brady to play over Henson, too.

I've followed M football closely for 35+ years now, and for that entire time there was some segment of the M fan base who thought their QB == FAIL. Good to see that not all traditions were thrown out with the transition to RR. Tate ain't perfect, never will be. But he was good enough already as a frosh to have won 9 or 10 games for a better team. And it seemed to me that most of his mistakes came from trying to do too much - probably because he realized he was the only player in a position to make up for a lousy D, mediocre O-line, and MASH unit full of RBs. It often fell to him to try for miracles, and I give him credit for taking the challenges on squarely, even when he failed.

because some people are delusional. That's life, some people want to believe what they want to despite the truth and the facts. Beating Notre Dame is not a big accomplishment anymore. Remember their coach got FIRED for a reason. "Dumb and troll" are great responses I expect from "Downriver Wal-Mart Wolverines". Trust me you don't want to get into name calling with me and I don't like E-Thugs. Just state the facts people and we can debate civilly. I just have high standards as should anyone who roots for U of M. Tate knows what he got himself into by seeing his brother and does not need to be coddled. I have a really big problem with facebook and when he started posting inside info on the program that was a real downer for me as a fan. No Tate and the U of M program owe me nothing. I not into blind faith and you have no absolute proof he will get better enough to make a difference. Stating my football resume and people I know will do me no good. All I have is my opinion and the facts to state. 1-7 people, 1-7 but is sound as if some of you would like to pop champagne over a 4-4 conference and a mid December bowl game. Good luck with that.

because you have no idea what you're talking about but you pass off each post as if it is gospel. tate was a true freshman last year and did about as well as a freshman can be expected to do without an all-world WR to throw to.

LOL. Did you pull that out your a@@hole or did you have to pull out the mack truck first??????????????? We can go all night people but I expected better than this to boil down to name calling. I could go to an OSU forum for this level of moronic intelligence.

It is obvious to me that you listen to way too much 97.l. Few people here are happy with the team's performance the past two years, but there isn't much reason to complain about it now. Its not like they are going to fire RR now because one person is screaming loudly on MGOBLOG. The best course of action right now is to support the team as much as possible. If they have another dismal season in 2010, I am sure there will be many here to join in your RR witch hunt.

He gutted it out last year despite obvious injuries, and for the most part, played beyond his years. For a true freshman, I was impressed. He needs to add about 10 pounds of muscle this offseason and just keep improving on his reads. I think him and Roundtree started to click at the end of the year, and that should carry over to the next.

You mean the same Colt McCoy who red shirted and is currently listed as 6-2 and 210 pounds. He spent all year in the weight room. Tate had personal trainers and was home schooled around football. It is very possible that he is maxed out. He put on 10 pounds to get up to 190 and lost it all during the season. At the end of some games he was looking "gassed" which surprised me considering he made it through Barwis's conditioning program. Maybe he will gain 30 pounds and grow two inches during his time here but it won't happen in the off season. He will never get that year back in the weight room because RichRod played him to soon like Sam McGuffie. Coaches aren't alway right and neither am I.but I would put money on what I believe in. Tate was Michgan's third choice for a reason so you can't even say he's Rich Rod's "guy". I see that Tate is god on this site and I apologize for offending you guy but it doesn't hurt my feeling. I went through the same thing with the "Weapons of Mass Destruction" issue so I know about going against the majority when they have "blind faith."

Wait, you mean the same Tate who has publicly said he had never done strength training as part of his regimen until he got to UM is maxed out? That makes complete sense, I don't why people would neg you so much, you're obviously the most logical and informed person on the board.

...before you post. Tate has repeatedly stated that he NEVER lifted weights until he enrolled in college. He had personal trainers to teach him throwing mechanics, not to lift weights. It was also reported multiple times that from his Jan enroll to fall practice he gained 10-15 pounds of muscle. Texas could afford to redshirt a kid like McCoy but Michigan couldn't wait, unfortunatly. What makes you think that Forcier was third choice? Two other kids, who were offered at the same time as Tate, committed first. Anyone knows anything about Michigan recruiting already knows, RR kept recruiting Tate even though he had 2 "better" prospects already committed. Why would he do that? It could be because Tate was the #1 most accurate passer in highschool football. Again, not specualtion, fact.
