Survey Results - Favorite Athletic Departments

Submitted by MGoAero on
Yesterday I posted a survey here: http://mgoblog.com/mgoboard/survey-favorite-athletic-departments-confer… Enough people have participated to make the results at least interesting. Without further adieu... ACC 1) Georgia Tech 16% 2) North Carolina, Clemson 15% (tie) 4) Boston College 13% Big 12 1) Texas 66% 2) Colorado 8% 3) Oklahoma, Mizzou 7% (tie) Big East 1) Pitt 26% 2) WVU 14% 3) UConn 12% Big Ten 1) Umich 95% 2) MSU 5% 3) Everyone else 0% WAC 1) Boise State 51% 2) Hawaii 14% 3) Fresno State 9% SEC 1) Vanderbilt 25% 2) LSU 19% 3) Georgia 14% PAC 10 1) Oregon 28% 2) Stanford 27% 3) Cal 13% MWC 1) Air Force 23% 2) TCU 22% 3) BYU 18% MAC 1) CMU 43% 2) WMU 15% 3) EMU 12% Independent 1) Navy 57% 2) Army 26% 3) Notre Dame 17% I think that I, for one, am most surprised at why Texas is always such a strong favorite in these parts. Also surprised that Air Force placed higher than TCU. Theories for why the less-obvious allegiances are what they are? Any other ideas for surveys? I'm always interested to see what our collective MGoOpinions are.

The only surprising to me was Oregon. Maybe the lack of UVa, but that's more because they've been irrelevant in football for a few years now. I'm about 80% sure people voted more for football than anything else.

Yeah, since we're talking about overall athletic dep't and not just football, I'm a little surprised Oregon beat out Stanford. Stanford is pretty much always at the top of the list in the Director's Cup. Despite the fact that they're having financial issues (most athletic dep'ts are these days), I'd say Standford is among the best run in the country.

...probably get a good response because so many MGoBloggers have some association with one service or another. Texas is because Texas has a huge population.

Air Force's popularity doesn't surprise me. People generally have a lot of respect for the service academies (and rightly so).
