The Spartan Head Coaches are visiting my wife's school today...

Submitted by NorthSideBlueFan on

So all the MSU head coaches are visiting a couple of the inner city schools here in Chicago to discuss teamwork with elementary level children and my wife's school(yes, she is a teacher) just happens to be one of them.

And as luck would have it, good ol' Mark Dantonio was chosen to visit my wife's class and teach along side her this afternoon. The good news is one of her students is a big UM fan and wears a Michigan sweatshirt most days, so she is sending him to greet Dantonio as the class representative. In addition, I gave her class a Michigan football a while back that will be proudly on display to greet Mark D when he arrives.

GO BLUE!

I realize why you posted this. Regardless, credit where credit is due. Dantonio is a leader in a highly public position. Anything he does to help the youth of America is laudable, IME.

he is going to a member of this board and die hard Michigan fan wife's classroom.

What he is doing is great and hopefully he will be a great influence on the children's young lives as they are in one of the worst areas of Chicago.

All my wife and I wanted to do is joke around with him a little. I don't see what the harm is.

That's not irony, that's coincidence.

Irony - the use of words to convey a meaning that is the opposite of its literal meaning: the irony of her reply, “How nice!” when I said I had to work all weekend.

Coincidence - a striking occurrence of two or more events at one time apparently by mere chance: Our meeting in Venice was pure coincidence.

There's an Alanis Morrisette joke about irony to be made here, but I can't quite figure one out at this point.

Not sure if you were serious about the Alanis Morsette joke...

But the joke is that not one of the things she mentions in her song is actually irony. Her song is about things that happen contrary to desire - NOT expectation.

(ie. fly in chardonnay, rain on wedding day, meeting the man of dreams and then his beautiful wife, etc.)

It is improtant that kids know that there are still places they can go if they can't get into a real college, or a trade school, or the McDonalds managerial program, or that truck driving school on TV. Besides, MSU is a great example of teamwork.  At a school like OSU or Miami or Tenn beating up frat guys is an individual event, at MSU they do it as a team.

Your wife should send the student to greet Mark Dantonio wearing one of those maize "Bow Down Little Brother" T-shirts.  Now that would be bold.

I have this image in my head of Dantonio walking into the classroom and seeing a sea of students in maize "Bow Down Little Brother" shirts.  5 to 1 his head explodes.

Probably not very respectful, but the image makes me chuckle a little.

Dantonio to the students: when you go to beat somone's fucking brains out for no fucking good reason, you do it as a fucking team God damnit!  Do you act alone during a gang rape?  No!  Do you go alone to a bank robbery?  Fuck no!  When there's a bully beating up little kids on the playground, do you approach the bully on your own?  No fucking way!  You gather your friends and kick that bullies ass together!  (dantonio shakes fist in the air) Teamwork!  Teamwork! Teamwork!

The kid in the sweatshirt and the football are plenty.  Although Dantonio is possibly my least favorite coach (Danny Hope close 2nd), what he and the other coaches are doing is very admirable.  Aside from a little good natured ribbing, he should be treated with great respect and sincerity as he is doing a good thing on his own time.

This is not meant to be holier than thou, just an opinion.

So Dantonio did a great job with the kids as expected, and they even brought along Sparty on the visit.

MD and Izzo were both even nice enough to sign autographs to my brother who is a DIE HARD SPARTY FAN. Dantonio autograph reads "GO GREEN! BEAT Michigan as ALWAYS". The funny part is that as MD  was leaving my wife said "see you at the Big House this fall" and went on to explain that I was a HUGE supporter of the Maize and Blue and season ticket holder. In turn Dantonio asks for the autograph he did for my brother back and adds " It STAYS Personal!"

I thought that was hilarious!!

GO BLUE!
