Softball loses to James Madison 3-0 - Sets up single elimination game to advance. Game on right now.
Pretty much sums it up. Softball team had a chance to sweep the regional tournament by beating James Madison this morning but they lost 3-0. They now play again today at 3:15pm with the winner advancing to the Super Regional and loser going home.
No pressure though.
0-0 end of 1st
Game is on ESPN2
Stranding too many runners on base
The announcers just said that Michigan is 3-33 with runners in scoring position against JMU. That just wont cut it.
Win The Game
Michigan strands a runner at 2nd with one out. End of 2. Still scoreless
I can't be the only person to find this announcer beyond painful. We get it, she likes Megan Good. Maybe she wants to get with her. But to openly admit that you're rooting for a player to make the WCWS and then to have every single one of your comments slanted one way while you're begging for strikes for the one pitcher - come on. It's a brutal listen if you're the fan of the other team and it's why announcers shouldn't be biased. I desperately want us to win just to listen to her tongue bathe JMU as we're celebrating on the mound. This is fucking ridiculous.
I agree. The way M is playing they don't deserve to be in the Softball NIT, but I just want to hear these idiot announcers eat it.
The male moron spent the whole St Francis game talking about and apologizing for those 2 twins. In a fucking mercy rule game, I don't think they said 3 positive things about Michigan the whole game. Completely biased and clueless ESPN deadbeats.
GoBlue!
Just unreal that now through 1 regular season game, 2 games in the regionals, and 2 innings in this one, Michigan has scored exactly 1 run against JMU.....1 run in 31 innings. Sure hope we find a way to get some runners on base! Let's go ladies!
It's not even getting runners on, it's the complete lack of clutch hitting that is taking its toll.
Plenty of scoring opportunities. They just reinvent the dipshit olympics every time somebody gets to second.
Btw, fwiw, our contact has been better this second game. Not that this fucking announcer would notice. But we had no solid contact in the first game and looked overmatched - this game there's been some hard hit balls, including some rips foul.
Agreed but boy it sure does feel like they're swinging scared/defensively. It's likely mostly mental at this point.
Well, she is throwing 70-71
It feels like we had a chance in this game - we seemed to have no chance in the first game - I mean here we managed to get a runner thrown out at home plate, but it looks like we're just not going to get it done.
Frustrating, because I don't think we were overmatched in this one.
Wow the anti-Michigan bias in the color analyst is strong. You folks were NOT kidding.
Oh, end of 3, still scoreless.
Way out of hand. Totally unprofessional.
0-0 after 3
For the middle of the day on a Monday, that's a solid crowd at Alumni Field, a part of the Wilpon Complex.
From looking at the stats, Good's weakness is giving up HRs, but our team isn't a huge power hitting team. Possibly just a bad matchup for Michigan.
Ugh, Good kept fouling off pitches then just homered to make it 1-0 in the Top of the 4th.
Go Blue!!
Team can't score runs. Been a theme in the postseason the last few years.
Jubas rips one into center, well played off the wall, Jubas falls down between first and center, and scrambles back to first safely. Two outs.
Beaubien gets a strike out to end the inning with just the solo shot as damage, 1-0 Duchesses middle four.
Leaving 3 stranded then giving up solo homers in the innings around it were just killers.
Also I upvoted this thread.
Also---hey you guys notice we changed something?
Smokin' Op's, we can upvote again!
Thanks for the heads up Seth - I’m at a the game and upvoted OP just for something to do. Or course WD is here, waiting to a take a picture of the victorious scoreboard. Can the OP edit their posts now?
Still looking for those 100 points....
Watching (and watched first game) and JMU is clearly looking like the better team offensively, and just a tad better on the mound, in spite of the constant traffic M has had.
I disagree with the pitching. Michigan is getting base runners, but nothing timely. This 2 out single crap is worthless. I can't count how many times they have had RISP with 1 out followed by an infield pop up.
James Madison is swinging for the fences and it's paying off. They have a lot of popups but are getting enough homers to win. We are slapping the ball around but not enough to score.
JM is #3 in the country in homers. We're 46th. Huge advantage when no one can get multiple hits in a row.
Not sure which coach is in charge of batting, but they might want to update their resume.
Michigan doesn't have a strong batting team this season. The real good to great hitters usually bat around 400 in softball. Michigan only has two players with that kind of average.
This JMU lineup battles on every pitch. They don't give away at bats. Tough.
To listen to the ESPN crew, Megan Good is either up for the Nobel Prize in pitching or candidate for sainthood. Ye gods.
She is pretty, and a good competitor - nice combo
Michigan did everything they could to make it happen with a steal that was worked because the runner knocked the ball free. Sobczak laced one into center, but a throw up the third base line to the plate got the Michigan runner for the third out. After four innings, JMU still up 1-0.
Well that was fucking smart. She is out by a mile at second base, so let's send her home from second!
That's not a good read by Hutch. Between a poor jump and how hard that ball was hit, it didn't even take a great throw to get her at the plate.
Hutch is actually terrible at knowing when to send runners. This isn't the first time this has been a problem.
I think Hutch was just being aggressive due to the fact that Michigan has been abysmal in RISP hitting.
I know it looked bad, but most coaches are sending w two outs in order to make the defense execute that play.
Of course, softball fields are little league so...however, M’s CF gave them no chance to throw out that second run bc she stayed back like it was a routine single w no one on.
End of 4. 0-1 JMU leads.
Ugh, some more timely hitting and JMU scores from second.
Looking pretty bleak.
JMU limited to just the one run, but given how stuck the offense has looked, that may be enough. 2-0 Ironically Unconstitutional Titles of Nobility middle of the fifth.
Seems like JMU is just a better team. For whatever reason the softball team just didn't have it this year.
