Softball beats Toledo 24-3!

So...this just happened.

Michigan scored 3 touchdowns and a field goal in a midweek matchup with Toledo while serving up $1 hot dogs at Alumni Field this afternoon.

The game was immediately out of hand from the 1st inning where the Wolverines scored 6 runs.  They proceeded to score 13 runs in the 2nd and 5 runs in the 3rd.  Hutch was forced to have mercy early in this one and starting subbing in pinch hitters in the 2nd inning.  Toledo walked 13 batters (some by HBP), 7 with the bases loaded and went through 5 pitchers.

The Wolverines inflicted damage with their bats as well, though, as they had 12 hits.  Every batter in the lineup except, interestingly, Lexie Blair scored at least 1 run.  Freshmen Hannah Carson, who came in as a pinch hitter in the 2nd inning, posted 6 RBIs with a grand slam and 2-run double off the wall. Haley Hoogenraad added 4 RBIs and Faith Canfield and Madison Uden chipped in 3 each.  Gianna Carosone hit the 1st homerun of her career in the 3rd inning.

Freshmen pitcher Alex Storako posted a shutout through 3 innings (despite her long rest periods in between) and was replaced by sophomore Sarah Schaefer in the 4th who gave up 3 runs to the Rockets.

I don't think I need to say that this game ended in 5.  But I will.  This game ended in 5 innings.

SEC Network has shown no less than 6 games EVERY week for about a month now. Meanwhile, I can't find M softball anywhere. Friday at 5pm will be the 1st TV games since about the 1st week of March.

BTN is failing it's own fucking conference. The SEC televises so many more games while BTN is replaying studio shows and basketball retrospectives.

Yeah, the Bigten Network sucks for sports coverage. You look at other conferences and they constantly have sports on. It would be good for the conference to know what teams are good and in what sports and then show them. Winning teams in every sport promotes your conference. I thought this is what this network came around for in the first place?

BTN+ is hot garbage and U-M's student U has gone from the best in the B1G to one of the worst in less than a season.

We were told this was gonna be streamed and just before gametime it's cancelled for the 3rd time this season. I pay $80 for this so I'm furious.

And of course it's a great game where we throttle the Toledo and almost break the program record for runs.

25-0 in 1996 was the most runs scored & largest win in program history. Just fell short of the runs record.

Gianna Carosone not only got her first HR. That was her first HIT. And it was a homer.

Spectacular.

Can't we get some type of petition going?!

No University in the conference would benefit as much as Michigan would with increased exposure to all the non-revenue sports.

Let's get one going and pass it along to M. Ward AND President Schlissel

They BOTH should be stumping for this.

Even if some of the recording is done on Michigan's dime!

They could all be home games, showcasing our facilities.

Get some student from the art school to film it for a lesser fee.

Only 4 Universities have placed in the top 10 of Director's Cup more than Michigan:

     Stanford    25

     Florida      25

     UCLA        22

     UNC          20

Michigan  19     (and, knock on wood, after this year we might be tied with UNC)

     Texas        19

     USC          16

     OSU          12

     Georgia     10

     PSU            9

It would help with recruiting.

We could try to get it endowed

Watching Gianna Carosone run the bases after her home run (and first hit at Michigan!) was one of the top sports highlights of the year for me so far. She was absolutely giddy.  I hope there are many more to come!

Every player on the roster got into the game except ace pitcher Meghan Beaubien, who is being saved for this weekend's games with Indiana.
