Slightly OT: OSU vs. Alcorn State

Submitted by HartAttack20 on
I'm sure that I'm not the only one watching the OSU game against Alcorn State on the BTN. Haven't watched the whole thing, but it looks like OSU can shoot pretty well and score points. It also looks like Alcorn State is pretty bad. It's hard to tell whether it has more to do with OSU's skill or Alcorn State's lack of talent. Part of the reason I created this this thread was to talk about OSU's team and partly because of something the commentators said during the game. They said that as soon as a player on Alcorn State came into the game, he would get a technical foul because he is jersey number 7. Two problems with that: 1) why would wearing a number over 5 not be allowed? Does the NCAA want to make sure the other numbers aren't left out or something? And 2) Why wouldn't the jerk player just wear a different number? The number 7 can't possibly be that special to take a technical for it. I'm surprised the coach lets him play. I didn't see whether he got in the game or not. Did he come in and get the technical? Thoughts on the game?

1) why would wearing a number over 5 not be allowed? Does the NCAA want to make sure the other numbers aren't left out or something? Pretty sure it is so the refs can use 2 hands max to signal the number for fouls. If there are numbers over five, and it's a 2-digit number ,then they couldn't use two hands and it would be confusing.

prohibit numbers 6 thru 9 because you can't hold up 6 fingers with one hand to call fouls. The NBA doesn't mind doing this. There is no number 7 on the Alcorn State online roster, so can't answer that one.

I'm stuck with UNC vs FIU. This isn't a game. I'm petitioning the SunBelt to start playing football on Monday nights as an under card to MNF. There's no reason for college football not to take over every night of the week. EDIT: It sounds funny to hear an announcer gushing over the BigTen being the best conference. You don't hear that much on television anymore. Just when volleyball games come on, and even then, it's generally a women's volleyball announcer, which normally doesn't have the same type of ring to it. (No offense to the volleyball announcers, they do a great job)
