Shea Patterson Dr. in Royal Oak

Submitted by The Mad Hatter on October 20th, 2019 at 12:07 PM

As I was leaving church this morning I noticed an unusual street sign at the entrance to the elementary school parking lot. It had a block M and read Shea Patterson Dr.

The National Shrine of the Little Flower Basicilla named a street after our starting quarterback. So we've got that going for us.

Which is nice.

I’ve been very critical of Patterson all year BUT last night he won me over. Showed moxy, was accurate, no fear running, and really limited his mistakes.

The receivers eventually got going yet let him down early with a lot of drops. I’m impressed with Collins and Bell but Black and DPJ never seem to live up to the hype besides just being a decent receiver.

I think the O has turned the corner. Hell, they are even naming streets after Shae now.

Yesterday was Shea’s best game at Michigan. You could tell he was in a zone from the very beginning. He was great.

As far losses go, I can take yesterday’s. Losing sucks, but we fought like hell, put up 400 yards on a top ten defense and held a top ten offense to their lowest yardage total in 2 years, all in their house. Penalties killed us, and yes, we got some bad calls and missed calls too. However, can’t have 3 offsides on defense and a few false starts on offense. OPI on Nico was insane, no OPI on Freiermuth was insane, holding on Lavert was weak, IMO.

Overall, we played well and just lost to a top ten team in a tough environment by one score. Oh well.

Well said. I've been a vocal critic of Shea and advocate for Joe Milton (and I still am), but Shea proved me wrong last night. He balled out, left it all on the field. It's clear now (when it hadn't been super clear before) why he is the starter.

I disagree with the previous comments about the wide-outs though. There were some drops last night, but they were also making plays, all four of those guys. The Nico OPI call is among the worst calls against a Michigan player I can remember. I'm not sure I will ever forget that one.

I do agree that this loss feels like a moral victory, even though it stings. I'm hoping that the team feels similarly. With a will, there's a way for them to rally and take out some frustration against ND. Let us believe...

I have to agree. He sure wasn't perfect (that INT was as ugly as any I've seen), but he was much better. That first quarter pass to DPJ, where he broke out of the pocket to the left and fired a bullet back to the center of the field, was a hell of a play. Yes, it was high. But if your supposed #1 receiver is really that good and can get both his hands on it, it's supposed to be a reception - and it should have been.

That's one of the things that makes Bell's drop so maddening. Shae avoided the rush, stepped up, and fired a pass that hit Bell right in the chest. He put the ball right where his receiver could catch it. For a QB who has been so inconsistent, he did his job well. By rights, it should have been six.

Yeah, that last play was exactly the sort of patient, sliding in the pocket we've been wanting Shea to adopt. And he did it, on the crucial play of the game, and should have had the tying TD. I think if Bell holds on, we win the game. We had scared the shit out of that whole stadium.

As gut-wrenching as that drop is though, I can't hold it against that kid. He played his heart out too, and had some nice plays through out the game. Hopefully Bell can bounce back. He brings a lot to the table.

Likewise for the DPJ drop. That was frustrating, but man, DPJ plays hard and has made a number of tough catches throughout his career. He had some good plays last night too.

One other thing: it seemed as though Shae was running a little a bit more last night, and with some effectiveness. I'll be interested to see how those plays look on UFR.

I'm more forgiving of Ronnie Bell this morning. I have to admit that last night, in the soul-crushing heat of the moment, my reaction wasn't quite as forgiving. Or pretty.

I thought this was about Shea Patterson's Doctor and that there was an injury all season and that last night was the first time it was healed and that's why he looked better and now he can beat Ohio State like we all thought at the beginning of the season.

Imagine my disappointment . . .
