Semi OT - Coaching Searches

Submitted by GNM on
The off-season in college football is shaping up to be quite newsworthy. Along with eagerly anticipating Brian's "Notre Dame 2007 vs. Michigan 2008" article, we also have a ton of coaching searches to look forward to: The jobs: Tennessee, Clemson, Washington, Syracuse, Kansas State The contenders: Lane Kiffin, Will Muschamp, Brian Kelly(?), Chris Peterson(?), Mark Dantonio(?), Others (???) FWIW, I think Dantonio stays put at MSU. Anyone want to venture some guesses for our collective amusement?

i'm eagerly anticipating the ND 07 vs UofM 08 article. i'd like to see the #'s and if there is a stat that shows how many games ND led before losing. We all know how many times that happened to us... Anyway, I just think we are better than ND was last year.

I don't think its close. Last year Notre Dame got outscored by 12 PPG, so far Michigan has been outscored by 6 a game. ND has 3.5 yards per offensive play and gave up 4.8, net of -1.3. Michigan is 4.7 for and 5.2 against, net of -.5. Michigan's Sagarin SOS is 19, Notre Dame's was 24th. Plus, Michigan is #1 in net punting. So, thanks to stunningly awful play from ND, they sucked more than Michigan does.

The job openings are pretty interesting. Tennessee- A very proud, storied program in a talent-deficient state. Any coach would get huge $$$ to go there. Washington- There is some talent there, and the west coast is a good place to recruit. Clemson- A pretty talented team, but the Athletic Director reminds me of Jerry Jones for some reason. Syracuse- There is a lot of talent that can be recruited out east but Greg Robinson let the likes of Rutgers, Pitt, UConn steal it all away. Kansas State- The Big 12 is tough but the team isn't dismal, a good coach could make them solid. I can't wait to see who goes where, and if some coordinators get a shot at coaching.

I would say that Tennessee is the most lucrative job this off-season, but may get the most hesistency from "name" coahces. Yes, it's a great program with a great history, but the expectations will be unfathomable. If I were a guessing man I'd say this is where Muschamp ends up. I think Kiffin lands in Seattle, his ties to West Coast recruiting make him a better fit there than any of the Eastern schools opening up.
