Scripting plays

Does anyone know if Nuss scripts the first series as Borges used to do?

To make this topic more than a simple question: predict our first formation and play on offense.

4 wide (Funch, Chesson, Darboh, Norfleet), empty back field, shot gun formation.  Funch, Chesson, Darboh run deep patterns, Devin checks down to Norfleet who picks up 20 yards against a linebacker who can't cover him.

Or a handoff to Green.

I imagine Gorgeous Al scripted plays but was distracted by a large box of powdered donuts. His play sheet was covered in powered sugar so he just decided to wing it. It would certainly explain a lot about last season.

am i the only one who thinks this is dumb?  i think bill walsh was the first guy i remember noted for doing this on the first drive.  he was obviously successful.

but what if you have a holding call on the first play.  are you still going to stick with the off tackle run on the next play?

obvioulsy, you game plan and have a general strategy.  but i don't believe in scripted plays/drives.

That's not what a script is, though. It's not 15 plays that are going to be called in order no matter what. That would be very stupid, and no one does it like that because most coaches at this level are not very stupid, despite what the very smart internet thinks. When they say they are scripting plays, they mean they have a list of plays that are going to be called based on down and distance. So, if they get a holding call, they will look at the script and see that they have Red Right Purple Rita Z Dig on there as the #1 play on 1st and 20. They call it, because that's in the script they meticulously planned. Later in the game, on 1st and 20, they will try to decide what to call based on the look the defense gave them on the previous 1st and 20. Maybe they'll come out in Red Left. Or maybe Blue Right. Maybe trips. Maybe that Z Dig looked ok against their expected front. Maybe he'll expect them to takeaway the Z Dig, thereby opening up the Y Post. Coaches are good or bad, but they are usually not dumb. They would not just say, "Fuck, 1st and 20, run the trap because this script that I made as a tool to help me gives me no other option."

I think the offense will be simple and vanilla for the first game. As for the first play, something quick like pass after a three step drop or a quick pass from the shotgun would be best. Something that doesn't require the line to block very long. Also, didn't Charlie Weis used to do this? Decided schematic advantage.
