Scout: Top Offensive and Defensive Scrimmage Performers
Predictable based on tweets and last night's thread. But a few things stand out:
- Glasgow #1 NT? This mentioned in the write-up on Hurst. Again, not sure if Pipkins played last night, but is he #3?
- Godin started at 3T, some praise for his play last night. They predict Henry as the opening day starter, but as of now Godin is #1 (probably as a way to keep fire lit under Henry). This would put Wormley #3 at the moment. Didn't hear much about him either, not sure if he played. But this pushes the two supposed interior DL starters to #3.
- Peppers is starting at CB, if that wasn't clear. Taylor came in at CB when going to nickel. Lewis started on the other side. Countess is currently on the outside looking in.
- Peppers was beastly.
- Bolden is absolutely lighting it up.
- For those who believe this D is just last year's D one year older, you're ignoring the facts above: two starting CB's (one of them All-B1G) and two promising quasi-starting - or at least penciled in as starters in 2014 - DL have been pushed to second (or third) string, and a younger LB has overtaken a three-year starter. This could all change in the next two weeks of course, but that's 5 of 6 positions where competition has replaced a 2013 starter or presumed 2014 starter. All other things being equal, that should be good news. Plus, the aggression thing is real.
- Offense is as expected: Morris and WR's (Funchess, Ways, Darboh/Canteen). Yes, we should all be concerned.

Blake Countess is going to start, are people that dumb?
Our fanbase reads way too much into things. An All-Big Ten performer is not going to lose his job. Especially after earning the #2 jersey.

On the offense thing....it's a new one. Dare I say it....look what msu did last year with an offense that did not click until after halfway through the season.

Wilson's getting reps at Strong Safety. And with experience and good football IQ behind them, as we saw with Kovacs, cornerbacks can afford to be aggressive. The USC(e) game also showed the need for two experienced safeties.

and want to give Glasgow some experience or just see how he handles himself out there. They could be sending a message but I didn't think Ryan Glasgow did that bad. He's not fighting for a starting position but he could get playing time.

Why? These guys get a chance to show what they can do with the 1s. That's a lot better than languishing on the scout team or repping with guys that aren't nearly as good and against worse competition.
I'm sure they know it's a long shot, but all you can ask for is an opportunity, and they're getting that. If they actually do well, this staff has shown they will play the best player, no matter their pedigree (Ryan Glasgow's own brother, for example)

I'm just very happy I got a #5 jersey a few years ago. That is all. Go Blue!

I think the offense and defense results are a mix. I think the defense is the real deal this year, but I don't know if they're as good as they showed last night. I think the offense will have its struggles, but not nearly as bad last night. Most times at early points in the season the defense is ahead of the offense, at all levels of football. My hope is that the Michgian defense is one of the toughest the young offense will face all year so this scrimmage was worse case scenarios for the offense.
