Based off what I've seen and heard, I'd prefer Tony Gibson get hired as a D-Coordinator somewhere instead.

I don't think glen mason's wife is all that. Maybe Lane Kiffins?

well she kind of hit the wall. You should have seen her before electricity if you know what im saying.

where'd you hear that? i've been told by guys on the team that gibson is a really good coach, despite what we saw on the field.

Wil Muschamp (yes I know it wouldn't happen, but thats who I would love to have in Ann Arbor). How many DC's does that make for us in the last few years? I mean we've been through a lot haven't we? And if its true what does that do to our recruiting on the defensive side of the ball?

As a rule, I don't think coordinators are all that influential in players' recruiting decisions. The head coach (the face of the program) and the positional coach (who works the most with the player) tend to be the two big ones.

I'm a geek for coaching trees, so if Miami hires outside the family for the first time since freaking Woody Hayes I'd be sad.

Let's see...we had Moeller, Carr, Herrmann, English and Shaffer going back to Bo. I think we have actually had more OC's during that time.
December 5th, 2008 at 12:06 PM ^
Bo had a DC before Moeller, I believe he became the head coach at Syracuse and was a holdover from Elliot's staff.

Moeller left to be head coach at Illinois before Carr arrived in Ann Arbor, so there is at least one missing in there.

Bill McCartney.

Jim Young was Bo's 1st defensive coordinator, preceding Moeller's first stint. George Mans was the asst under Bump that stayed on, but he was not DC.

Young is perhaps most notable for bringing Larry Smith to Arizona with him from Michigan.

I can find nothing in the resume of Scott Schaffer that would make him an attractive candidate for a head coaching position right now. Maybe down the line, but there are far better choices for Miami. Since 1997 Michigan has had three defensive coordinators -- Jim Herrmann, Ron English, and now Shaffer.

I dont know how high up the list Shaffer is.
I have no Miami connections.....but in talking with a MAC observer who lives in the heart of Ohio, there is such a long list of candidates that keeps getting thrown out there that its difficult to figure out what is a serious rumor or not.
Its a confusing situation.
He said pay attention to michigan state, rather than michigan. I guess the school has been looking into some of D'Antonio's assistants......narduzzi, staten, treadwell......all three have Miami ties......he's putting his money on one of those three becoming the selection.
Doctor Worm.....are you out there......would it be a loss to lose any of these guys, I dont much about them......if one of them gets hired, I am sure HM Puffenstuff is available!!!

If we get H.R. Pufnstuf, does that mean he's bringing Teddy Ruxpin as his assistant?

I for one (apparently the only one on here) am in favor of seeing Shafer come back next year. Mainly due to the fact that I'd rather have the kids have some consistency for a minute considering all that's changed recently. I definitely give him the benefit of the doubt and think that our defense was a lot closer to being really good this year despite what the stats show. I mean he was given a great line, but everything behind it was a crapshoot. To say that our defensive iniquities were his fault is rather harsh considering some of our personnel issues. Can you fault him for Stevie Brown not being able to wrap someone up when Shafer's D got him in position in the first place?
