Schools can Help Secure NIL Deals if that Service is Available to All Students?

I posed the title as a question because I really don't know who this Mit Winter is and if there's something else that prevents the Univesity from creating an Office of NIL for all students. However according to ESPN the NCAA has tried clarifying a few things regarding NIL.  One of the more interesting things is this quote.

"The only services that schools are really allowed to provide for athletes under this new guidance are educational services: How to build your brand. How to handle finances, taxes and stuff like that,'' sports law attorney Mit Winter said. "But (schools) can't be providing any service that's going out and helping the athletes actually find deals unless that service is available to all students.''

Another interesting thing is this part:

The latest guidance said school personnel, including coaches, can be part of fundraising for collectives, booster-funded organizations that provide opportunities for athletes to profit from their names, images and likenesses. But coaches and school staff members cannot donate directly to collectives.

So, there may not be anything stopping the university from unleashing the total weight of the Athletic Department's fundraising team.  Which as almost everyone knows is extremely diligent in reaching out for donations. There's also appears to be nothing stopping any of the Michigan coaches from flat out saying we need NIL deals in this amount, for current players cough cough, so go donate to ______________________.

I'm sure Michigan will read this.

And continue to do nothing.

Warde has no time for stuff like this.

He's busy suspending Howard for 4 games more than necessary and not signing Harbaugh to contracts in a reasonable amount of time.

Or completely botching the Pearson debacle.

But hey, the Regents say he's our man!

Yup. Here's very clear direction that the NCAA is saying it's okay for the AD to direct and fundraise booster money into collectives (as long as they don't specify which player it goes to). But of course Warde won't do anything about it and fight for the money to go to the AD rather than the players.

If I understand this correctly, Michigan can create an NIL office for their entire student body.  This could include Social Media Influencers, student athletes, etc.   The one criteria is - if a university sponsors NIL, then that NIL "offer" must be available to all students.

So, Michigan can create an NIL offer available to any student (and, can instructors / administrators also participate), with foundational information - and encourage everyone to support it.

I believe there is one distinction, which deals with negotiating an NIL deal, and my understanding is that neither the University nor Athletic Department is permitted to negotiate an NIL deal.

One interesting thing about this is, for those schools who were very talented and experienced with "brown bag" programs, the Athletic Department can now tell those "brown bag" contributors to - "please donate to this Collective".

This is simply a retro-active way to make sure all of the schools (read the usual suspects: SEC & OSU) who have been manipulating NIL deals the past year can't get in trouble because the rules have now changed.

NCAA will NCAA. Moving on.

Why are we still pretending the NCAA has any authority? Nobody else gives a shit what the NCAA says. The NCAA knows they'll lose any case that goes to court. Their only power comes from bumbling idiots like Warde who like to kiss the asses of the so-called 'authorities'. Get him out.
