Who pitched?  That was the question as I recall from Alex's preview...would we get solid work from the mound?

I guess I could look it up myself... done... Derkowski. Yikes... time to buy the Frosh some bats.

These stats don't seem to add up. Hard to find good help these days. The score stands. Good enough. The defense appears to be solid as well.

The team is 3-1 despite averaging 2.5 runs per game. The best news so far is that LeBeau has been sharp, allowing 3 hits and 1 run in 7.2 innings with 1 walk and 12 strikeouts. Small sample against meh opposition, but it's possible that she has significantly upped her game as a senior. Hopefully at some point the light will go on for some of the hitters who are not used to facing college pitchers.

She's also hit three batters, and I don't think last year it was ever an issue of taking care of the lower tiered teams Michigan faced. Last year opening weekend she went 15+ with no earned runs, granted USF is probably a little better than anyone she faced in those three games. I think at this point she is what she is, an ok Big Ten pitcher.

This was the most incredible softball game I ever watched in person. I saw Hutch there after the game too. Derk's changeup was owning the lady gators today. I also heard a few "happy birthday Lauren!" cheers from the stands too. Pretty sweet she through a complete gem on her bday. Fantucci is a defensive badass. This was as gutty a win you will ever witness. Also, Lebeau came in and owned Bethune Cookman. Was an amazing day of Michigan softball. Keep up the energy ladies.

Two outs from a difficult loss to Oregon State - two scratch singles in 6 1/3 innings, then a home run from Maddie Erickson, a double from Jenissa Conway and Lily Vallimont's first career hit - an RBI single, capped a walk-off 2-1 victory over the Beavers.

LeBeau pitched well after giving up a first-inning home run. Hoehn came on in the sixth to keep Oregon State from increasing its lead.

For relevance, RPIs from last season for the teams involved in this tournament at South Florida.

South Florida - 73 - lost, 1-0
