Ronnie Bell Presser: Fall Camp & His Second Year
Summary:
(Side note: ohhh boy somebody's writing some articles about "former basketball player turned WR"...sigh...reporters)
A self evaluation on how he feels this camp vs last year: Much more comfortable, feels more mature and more mentally ready to get into things. This season he came in getting his mindset ready.
How has he seen himself improve? Feels like he's improved a lot even since the spring. The team has as well - the receiving corps especially, a lot of little steps. For himself - its the little details as well as being stronger.
On having a "football body" and not a "basketball body" - One of the biggest things for him was to get stronger for when he's blocking
Does he still play basketball? No I haven't done much - every now and then he'll shoot around with the guys
What's the biggest differences physically now vs he was playing basketball: When he's lifting now he knows he's about to go play football against someone big, so it's the mindset when you're lifting
Does he feel more comfortable as a "football guy" this year? No he was comfortable last year and he's comfortable this year. All about getting stronger for blocking
When did he feel comfortable playing college football? Nebraska game last year.
How does the new offense suit you? It suits him well, suits all the WRs in the room really well, the tight ends as well.
On having the "catch of camp" so far - what happened? Caught a go route, Shea made a good through and the O-line gave him time and he jumped up and made a nice catch.
Is he playing mostly outside or in the slot? No they all rotate around - no one area he plays most at
Any benefit to getting more reps while some of his fellow WRs were dinged up in spring? Just more reps, more mental reps.
What has he learned from Josh? Lots of little tricks and details, tricks on running routes - he's a details guy
Any CBs on the team impressing him? All the corners have been excellent especially in the fall Vincent, the Greens, JKP, DJ Turner.
Has he reflected on where he'd be if he was playing basketball? Just a blessing to be here and every day he wakes up and thinks about it. Football was always his dream even when he though he would play basketball.
Giles and Cornelius? Excellent, taking coaching, ability is growing - little details on learning routes and such. They both have their styles and are rotating through with the guys.
Are they running more 3 and 4 WR sets? More than last year, yeah.
Does it affect him being "behind" the Big 3 WRs? He's just going about his business and when it's time to play it's time to go.
Is Tarik all the way back? Yeah everybody's healthy. It was a mental game for him getting back and since spring he's been all the way back.
On Vincent Gray? He's really good. He's taller than me. Physical DB and plays well.

He's not saying anything super mind blowing, but you get the sense that he's a likable guy. Excited to see the receivers make some sweet catches this year. #speedinspace

"Everybody's healthy." That would mean DPJ. That definitely blows my mind with joy.
And I choose to believe it because I want it to be true.

Yeah most of the player interviews are that way but I find you can usually spot a couple of interesting things in them and read between the lines a bit on how the answer certain questions. plus you get to see more of their personalities come out a bit.

If one of the big 3 WR's return next season and I expect at least one of them will then WR should be in good shape next season as well.

I love this kid...great hands, runs precise routes, tough, hard nosed, grinder type. He’s like a coach on the field. I expect big thing out of him in the new pass- friendly offense. This kid brings his lunch pail everyday and just works!

Any word if he's blue collar or a gym rat with a high motor?

He is not. Neither is he a coach's kid.

Can't win with basketball players that are only 2-stars. Nobody in Kansas City even saw him play football, Harbaugh's wife pointed him out!
/Maizen'd
Two stars, but agile and fast! KC knows football, with lunch pails and blue collar effort like a coaches kid! Don't worry about Sarah, she's wiry and knows what it takes to make a play throughout the yard, only fast!
/Jackson'd, when Maizen isn't around...

I like that they are rotating positions. That seems like it will allow them to find the best matchups each game.

Not only that, but it's going to make the WRs better able to deal with an "inside" or "outside" guy getting injured.

That's what practice is... rotation for reps. All programs down to pee-wee football do this.

I feel like with Bell being sent out for an interview, and the way that Harbaugh brought him up in the presser on Wednesday when asked about someone else (DPJ, but I may be remembering that wrong) - I think this is pointing to Bell basically starting. Amazing to think that he may have beaten out one of the big three.
