Ron English MAC Coach of the Year
Ron English won MAC Coach of the Year yesterday. He led Eastern Michigan to a 6-6 record this year after going 2-10 and 0-12 in the 2 previous years. Congrats to Ron, it's always nice to see a former Michigan coach do well.
Also I found this interesting:
English has been mentioned in recent days, in various publications, as a candidate for the vacant head coaching jobs at Arizona State, Washington State and Illinois.
I did not know that until now. It'd be great if he went to Illinois and was able to hand OSU a loss every now and then.

Kurt Anderson and Steve Morrison as well--a lot of M alums on that staff.

I would love to see him take over for Fred Jackson when he decides to retire. He will need some hyperbole training prior to taking the job but otherwise should be good to go.

Would Hart be allowed to call young RBs, "Mike Hart but fast," or would that be too gauche?

I'm curious to see where he ends up, and definitely want him to be back at Michigan one day. Seeing him at the EMU game in all green was a weird experience.

How to hire a staff, how to build a program, how to identify recruits, etc, etc, etc. Let's give him some time to see how he learns and how he adapts. Nice job this year, let's expect more and see how he does. Still a very young guy who is growing in stature and wisdom and is smart enough to steal shamelessly from the Michigan players and coaching tree.

I agree with the idea that he's learning how to be a head coach. I think eventually he will be ready and be a good coach at a bigger school. But for now he should continue what's he is doing and have a few more successful years at Eastern.

<br>You look at Brady Hole, it took him a few years to get going at Ball State. Part of that was the state of the program when he took over, but in my mind the other part of it was him learning how to be a head coach. And it seems like it worked out well for him. English should follow the same path.

...the AQ position he'd probably have the best shot at is one that's open now. He's got history at ASU and he's even got some support from their fanbase. There's some small but nonzero chance they would offer it and I can't see him turning it down because he isn't ready.

I think he should get out while the gettin's good. State funding cuts have been relentless and I don't see improvements down the pike. Under those circumstance, the money EMU has to provide to football must give some people pause. I question whether EMU can afford to keep supporting English's program at the level he needs to keep the momentum going.

with RR at Arizona now, I don't see how Ron be seriously considered at ASU.

is nothing that can be bragged about. I am not convinced. It is way to premature to think that he would have a shot at BCS schools, although it would be fun to see him at ASU butting heads with RR.

I watched 9 EMU games this year because of my opportunity to be a sideline photographers. That is the most EMU games I've watched in a season. I've gone to a few games every now and then but I've followed the team since I've graduated. This season was the first season that I actually felt good about. This season was also the first time in a long time that I felt EMU could go into the games and have a chance at winning. Based on what I saw, I think EMU has a good chance to better next season. Hopefully this is something they can build upon.
Based on what I saw of the coach, he didn't seem to berate players and go into tirades agaist the refs (althoug there were a couple games where he could have). He seems to be an overall decent guy. Also in his time at EMU, he has benched various players for various transgressions and it didn't matter what their position on the depth chart was. To me that speaks volumes of his value system. And quite honestly, in these days of so many coaches looking the other way at various transgressions this is refreshing.
And I hope that he decides to stay at EMU.
