Robert Marve considering M?

Submitted by iawolve on
Btw- Awesome to see bball stepping on someone's throat today when they needed to. Anyhow, Miami Herald reported that Robert Marve is considering between Michigan, UCLA, Oklahoma, Purdue, Texas Tech and USF. Really? I have not heard that anywhere else. Was highly recruited in HS, but seems like a lot of drama around him. My guess is that they could be name dropping to build hype, I don't know.

Why would he come to Michigan? Denard and Tate will pick up a year in Rod's system, and we're bringing in Gardner and another dual threat QB. Marve has to sit out this year. Why would Marve want to be part of a 5 way QB battle? Marve is a pro-style QB who has some mobility but isn't an ideal fit for our offense. He isn't coming here.

Because RR stated time and timeagain that he wants as many players as possible at each position to create competition... And the best will standout... It's a good problem to have

Marve isn't looking to sit on the bench again. He'll pick a school where he has the best opportunity to start; Purdue and USF would be his two best candidates. Purdue doesn't have much QB depth and skill, and USF's Matt Grothe is a senior. I'm sure Rich Rod would be glad to take Marve, but looking at it from Marve's perspective, he wants to start and his odds look dim if he came to Michigan.

Ultimately, I don't think Marve will end up coming to Michigan... ...but I don't necessarily think it's because of the competition. Our starting QB (whoever that is) hasn't even taken a snap in college PRACTICE yet. Marve is a talented kid. I don't think he's too intimidated by a couple 17-year-olds who have yet to attend prom.

..has cancer; IIRC, it's prostate cancer. He wants his son to stay close to home; that means USF. That is why Miami coach Randy Shannon was pressured to let up on his transfer restrictions; it would be bad to tell someone he can't play in his hometown in front of his possibly dying dad. BJ Daniels, who was recruited by RR last year and changed his mind at the last minute, is the heir apparent at QB for now. He actually looks pretty good; I think he could have gotten six or seven wins last year if he had gone to UM. If Marve, like his HS teammmate Cornelius Gallon, presently enrolled at CMU, fully recovers from his injuries, somebody is getting a really good player. Sadly, though, you don't know if his injuries sustained in his auto accident have hurt him more than he is letting on. And, of course, you never know how HS talent will translate to the major college level.
