Rob Rassey hired as Michigan Hockey Assistant Coach

Seems to me like he's just filling Naurato's old role. Does this mean that Naurato might be the guy for an extended role? Anyone have any thoughts or insight on this?

Release from Michigan Athletics Dept. below.

looks like coach N is keeping the staff young.  worked with Rassey in the red wings organization. not a ton of experience but by all accounts is a very intelligent guy who knows hockey and identifies talent well.

could be great hire, could be "meh"

Why would this have anything to do with Naurato being the guy for the extended role?

He’s the interim head coach now, meaning he has to hire an assistant to fill his previous role. Being that he now has to oversee the entire team, hiring a guy to fill his previous role on the team makes sense.

If Naurato IS given the permanent role, then cool. Staff in place. If the University decides to go in another direction, the new coach is bringing in his own staff anyway so this is irrelevant.

I don’t see how this can possibly be interpreted as a signal in either direction in regards to the future of the head coaching role. Especially when you factor in the team hasn’t PRACTICED yet, let alone played any games. How is Warde going to remove the interim tag after ~2 weeks (?) when literally nothing has happened?

Lmao a South Dakota news site's take on it:

"We just met Rob Rassey on July 28th after he was named the Stampede head coach. I liked him, we were going to be golf buddies... Not anymore!

Rassey is moving on before ever coaching a game in Sioux Falls."

Wonder if Rassey even took into consideration his future golf buddy before this major decision, it's a cold world out there /s
