Rivals releases final team rankings for '09 recruiting class

http://footballrecruiting.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=989063 This final ranking excludes kids who didn't actually make it to campus. Individual players, of course, were not reranked. Michigan, which traditionally sees its ranking jump from signing day to the enrolled rankings finishes at an impressive #6, up from #8 on LOI day- passing USC and Florida State. Other notables:
  • OSU holds steady at #3. They only lost a fullback.
  • MSU up from 17 to 16. They got everyone in.
  • Notre Dame up from 21 to 18. They also lost no one.
  • Penn State down from 24 to 25. They lost Darrell Givens, the 4 star cornerback from Maryland we were pursuing heavily at one point.
  • North Carolina and Florida State took the biggest hit in the top 25, dropping from 9th to 15th and from 7th to 12th, respectively.

Freep or DetNews (I forget which) did a story a week or so ago about how these final rankings would help MSU. But it seems that UM got a bigger increase than MSU.

The Freep is one of those publications that is good for only one of two things: (a) much like the National Enquirer, to read farfetched stories in order to pass the time while standing in the checkout line at the grocery store; and (b) to line the bottom of a bird cage.

I know oversigning has already been discussed at length, but this is crazy: "The SEC's new rule about oversigning applies especially with Ole Miss going into the future. The Rebels signed 37 players, 12 of which never made it to Oxford for one reason or another. The biggest loss in the 12 was defensive back Jamar Hornsby, who was one of the top junior college players in the nation last year. Hornsby ran into some off-the-field issues and won't be playing for Mississippi this season. The Rebels are also grayshirting two of the players in that group, so both will be with the team in the spring." So 1 guy lost his scholarship because of off-the-field issues, 2 players are grayshirting, what about the other 9 guys? It doesn't mention how many were non-qualifiers. A school can pull an offer from someone who is a verbal commit, but If the players signed a LOI, then the school can't later pull their money, can they? Did they really sign 9 guys who didn't qualify academically?
