College Football Reporter who died from pneumonia from all the way back covering The Game this year. Really puts that embarrassing loss into perspective for us

He looked young and strong. He must have  been in a modern hospital for treatment. I don't see how he died of pneumonia. I'm not getting this. Something else was going on with his health? I had pneumonia when I was 25, very bad, and also got a sinus infection with it. You ever blow your nose and it's orange? I had that. I was afraid I would die. So I know what it's like. I had to slow waaaaay down in life and let my body recover. If I was an old man I may have died. So I'm not getting this. Maybe it was just his time.

This is not good Christmas cheer.  I can only imaging he let it go too long before being seen by a doctor, to have pneumonia be the cause at such a young age.  Especially in a man otherwise in decent (if not excellent) health.  The other option is that pneumonia was a secondary infection from something else.  Either way, this is just horrible.  Thoughts and prayers to his family...

Very sad. I wonder if he had a weakened immune system or didn’t seek treatment fast enough. Getting pneumonia was one of my least favorite experiences... I couldn’t stop coughing for weeks. Prayers for the family this Christmas.

Engaged to be married in April, too...

Plus, I think he had already lost both his parents. Horrible loss for his entire family.

Dies on the same day he was born... Truly very sad.

My wife had the flu then developed double pneumonia. She ended up on a ventilator for 12 days. Luckily she recovered and is doing well. It took her over 6 months to recover and return to work.

There are different types and many can't be powered through without help... some just can't.  Hindsight is 20/nothing in this case.

Seeing it happen to a loved one is hard.

Whatever happened here, to Ed,  viral, fungal, bacterial or combination of... pay attention to your body and those around you.

Glad your wife pulled through.

Lost my winter term sophomore year to pneumonia. Hospitalized with the shit twice more before I was 30. Four total trips.

Because I'm a really smart guy with a degree from the University of Michigan, I finally figured out that pneumonia will kill your ass and stopped messing around with it.

If you had it once, your gonna get it again. Get the shot!

On the positive side, when you get old and sick, the pneumonia will likely come around and hurry things up so you won't have to hang around with nothing to do. So, there's that.

Oh yeah ... and a Merry Christmas to all of you.

So very sad, and it was indeed his birthday. One of my best friends knew him pretty well from their time at UF together. He learned that Ed had HLH which flared up and severely complicated the pneumonia, and caused his passing.

Just a reminder that life can be short and things can change in a flash. Definitely extra grateful for my family and our health this holiday season.
