rich's frustration/random thoughts (Some positivity!)

Submitted by griesecheeks on
I'm curious about something: i know there's the faction of people who (ime stupidly) want Rich's head right now, but my question is at what point Rich says, 'f- it, this isn't working, i'm out of here'. Anyone think that's at all likely?would that be career suicide for him? I certainly don't pretend to know the answer on this one, but when things go this far off course, i think you have to wonder. Now, i think that if we a.) eek out a huge upset in one of these last 2 games, thereby nabbing a bowl game or b.) are at least competitive in BOTH games, then the afforementioned idea is off the table. If we endure 2 blowout losses with no signs of life, i will continue to wonder... From what I've seen - and i've been at the point of head-asplode numerous times - there's definitely progress from last year on the offensive side, which is keeping us in some of these games. Defensively, i'm having a hard time envisioning things changing for the better without RR finding a defensive mastermind who can recruit big-time players. I'm beyond the point of really being mad. There's just not much left to do except sit back and watch the games, hoping we can outscore an opponent. We're a bad team right now... have been for several weeks. On another note, I have to say, while Tate's numbers have totally come down to earth (and below, at points), i really love that the kids wants (almost TOO much so) to make plays. he's scrambling wayyy too much, and has made some terrible decisions, but he's trying to do whatever he can to try to make things happen. i've been hard on the kid at points, but good for him for continuing to fight. i'd be surprised if he's not a MUCH improved QB next fall. nice stat: only 5 ints in 217 pass attempts. that stat caught me by surprise. more than anything, i want to see tate develop a chemistry with one of these wideouts over the offseason. a go-to guy will do wonders for him. Nice to see Roundtree have a big game today.

...I'm a fan of Tate's and RR. I think in the next few years he will mature even more and make quicker decisions. I'm at a loss for why we arent utilizing DRob more than we are. I'm not talking about at QB but with that much speed and athleticism, not to mention DG coming in next year - make the change to a percy harvin type already.

(This only half applies to you, i know you didnt call for a complete position change, but i've seen it a couple of times and used this as an avenue to that point) He's not Percy Harvin, he's not even Trindon Holiday. Percy Harvin wasn't only succesful because of his speed, he's a damn good football player too (As a skill player, Denard could turn into a good QB). Denard Robinson is quarterback who has had a month and a half of teaching, he needs time to develope. The new rage of college-ready highschoolers does not apply to everyone. Not everyone goes to all the camps under the sun, or comes in early to spring practice. Give him time. People talk about not bailing out on Rich Rodriguez because it's only been two years, but want this kid to be wasted at receiver because he hasn't caught on to college quarterbacking in a month and a half. Tate hasn't even come around that much and he went to the spring camp. It takes time.

The defense is somewhat beyond RichRod's control, with the 58% retention rate and all. The best thing for everyone to do right now is take a step back and drink heavily.

Rich Rod won't leave. Michigan can recruit better than just about any team and given enough time he will produce winners here. He know this and will hope for enough time to bring it to fruition. Whether he will get that time is very much up in the air as it looks like another year or more of suck may very well be ahead of us.

I agree with the person above who said that the buyout is the biggest problem. Career suicide? He won't get an offer on the same level as Michigan right away, but I haven't seen anything that makes me think he wouldn't get a job with a slightly lower-tier team. The coaching fraternity in CFB is pretty nice; once you're in, you're in.

job openings this season. Seriously he was one year early leaving WV. Last year he could have had Tennessee, Clemson and Auburn all fighting over him. There just won't be any high profile jobs open unless the ND job opens up. RR is not going anywhere on his own.
