Regarding tOSU 09 Class & M Hall

Submitted by turbo cool on
The 09 recruiting class for tOSU is already at 24 players. can they sign over 25 like bama last year and UNC this year? i only give a shit just with regards to Marcus Hall. I'm hoping some lowly regarded recruit that they offered commits within the next 48 hours to take up that 25th spot. perhaps that increases our chances of landing Hall?

never thought of that...its interesting that even though somebody committs to a school it's not always because it's where they wanted to go but where there was room for them.

OSU is also still in it with Tajh Boyd, Marlon Brown and Corey Adams... Interesting to see how it plays out. No way they can fit all of those guys in (they're not all going to pick OSU, though).

some of the verbals at OSU jump ship for somewhere else. Would be even more interesting to see Dorian Bell say, "You know, UM actually is better than OSU so I am going to go to Michigan now. Screw OSU! Tressel and the other guys remind me of old child molesters!"

You can sign more than 25 guys, you can't have more than 85 on scholarship. The 25 rule is an arbitrary method of restricting offers, it is not an NCAA regulation.

25 per class, 85 total; with exceptions: a) of early commitments being able to be pushed back to the previous year's totals if room exists (for 25/yr limit), and b) "reasonable" expectation of attrition before the next season starts (for over 85 limit) such as Alabama oversigning their 85 total then ditching several existing players for drug offenses and assigning key medical redshirts prior to the season

You can sign more than 25 if you didn't sign the maximum of 25 the previous year (http://recruiting.scout.com/2/727350.html). Ohio State ended up signing 20 last year. Unaware if there were any academic casualties, can't be arsed to look for transfers at the moment (I know one - James Scott, who transferred to Ole Miss, bless his soul). We have room, whether or not it's enough to bring in the ridiculous pie-in-the-sky finish of Hall, Boyd, Brown and Adams is anybody's guess.

25 is not a sure-fire given allowance, it's a guideline max... To start, take 85 minus (however many returning schollies OSU has). If the result is 25+ then you get 25 to start. If it's less than 25, say 19, then you get 19 only. Next, if you had 20 last year, you could get +5, but still only as long as you don't go over 85. If you return 60, get 25 this year, then you can't use your bonus +5 from last year because then you're over 85 again. (You'd have to have 55 or fewer returning to use your full 30. Even then, you only can use your +5 if you have 5 early enrollees who can be pre-dated back to the previous year.) Lastly, I don't know for sure, but I believe the above is correct that the Big10 further restricts us to a hard max of 28/yr period. I've heard it several times.
